Happiness in intelligent people is the rarest thing I know.

- Ernest Hemingway, author and journalist, Nobel laureate (1899-1961)

Hemingway, who took his own life in 1961, knew his share of both intelligent people and of unhappiness. He lived through two world wars, the Great Depression, four wives and an unknown number of failed romantic relationships, none of which would help him to develop happiness if he knew how.

As Hemingway's quote was based on his life experience, I will base the following speculation on both my personal and my professional experience as a sociologist. Not enough study exists to quote on this subject.

Western society is not set up to nurture intelligent children and adults, the way it dotes over athletes and sports figures, especially the outstanding ones. While we have the odd notable personality such as Albert Einstein, we also have many extremely intelligent people working in occupations that are considered among the lowliest, as may be attested by a

My mother has heard horror stories about nursing homes. Her hairdresser said she has to go every evening to feed her mother as the staff doesn't have time. Some friends said the more visitors you have the better care you get. Another person told her if you always have candy or cookies to pass out to the staff they come in your room more often to "check on you". Mom is afraid that when the time comes she will be neglated or abused. How do we answer her? The few visits we've had to different homes we've seen people sitting around in chairs staring at walls or appearing to be doped up.

i got cast with no need for surgery. broken wrist care info from er was basic & generic but not great & office that put cast on didnt send any printed info home on how to care for broken wrist. they just gave appt date for next thurs.
it been 14 yrs since i skated last & i'm not sure i'm getting on skates again maybe if i wear expensive wrist guards. i dont like the modern skate music much anyhow its ok but different.
by the way the percoset & ibuprophen are doing much for pain & i can barely feel the ice through cast when i apply ice fro 15min.
are there any natural anti inflammatories / pain killers to reduce swelling?
i'd try searching myself it would take forever with 1 finger besides computer posture aint best for broken wrist right now. lol.

I have a 2000 dodge intrepid that I bought in 2001 and never had this problem since a couple of days ago. When I put on either the left or right blinker it starts to blink but then will stop for no reason and sometimes goes back on and sometimes just stays off. It looks like all of the lights are working and I checked the fuse for the blinkers. Any ideas? Could it still be the bulbs even though they are all working? any ideas would be greatly appeciated

Its a restored 66 el camino with a 383 it was an automatic but was converted to standard. I let one of my friends drive it yesterday and the problem started when they got down the street and tried to put it into 2nd gear. It will start and rev and all that but it won't move at all and just stalls when I try to catch first gear. Its a 4 speed (H) with reverse on the left and the shifer will not move left to go into reverse anymore. There were fluids on the ground. My dad said not to let any boys drive it and I have to fix it before he finds out!

I would like to get one and was wondering about their personalities. They have been bred down generations with wild cats, right? So, are they completeley domesticated now and friendly? And what were they bred with to get those cool markings? Should the kitten have the markings it'll have as an adult or can it change? And what is the average price for a non show quality (but still one with nice markings) Bengal and are cat breeders usually helpful? I know a lot about the dog breeding world but nothing about cat breeding. I already have 3 domestic shorthairs that are quite old (13,14, and 17) so I may just wait till they are gone so I don't upset them or would they be accepting? They are all fixed of course, two males and one female.

After the death of Muhammad no one knew the entire Koran by heart. Many Arabs revolted against Abu Bakr and had to be forcibly put down. The greatest opposition came from Maslama (a.k.a. Musailima) who claimed to be a prophet but was executed by Abu Bakr. Then 'Umar asked Zaid ibn Thabit to collate the Koran. The suras were arranged from longest to shortest, as even then the chronological order was imperfectly known. That codex was given to Hafsa. Other scholars also compiled their own codices. These became sources of contention because they different from one another. So,'Uthman asked Zaid to write another codex and all the others were destroyed despite a fair amount of grumbling by their compilers. The variations between the codices could not be variations of dialect, as at this point the Arabic script could not express such variations, being both unvowelled and unpointed. The distinctives of the destroyed codices have survived somewhat in oral tradition.

I'm 20 and I have a bad receding hairline. Rogaine only works on the crown, it doesn't work on frontal hairloss. I have used shampoos since I was 18. My doctor won't give me propecia because he says it will mess with my ability to get an erection. I exercise regularly and do not use hair gel or wax. I might have elevated levels of testosterone but, I am not willing to take estrogen to combat the effect. Is there anything else besides surgery that would help me?
