Well, I am a student from Singapore, and our equivalent of the last two years of American high school is Junior College, where we study towards the (singapore-cambridge) A levels.

Now, I am 15, and for me next year would be the last year of secondary school, which is the second year of American high school.

Well, I like Penn a lot, and I am thinking if I could take the SATs now, and apply, would that be OK by the Adcoms? Would Penn consider accepting me, if say I get like a near perfect score on the SAT plus good recs.

I know of a guy who got into Caltech purely by SATs and without A levels or the sort. But Penn? How about other top business schools like Haas (Berkeley)... etc??

Thank you all...

We friends had a chat, and someone said when you manage to get a PhD degree, it doesn't matter where you study, the certificate's values are the same.

I suppose a graduate from Ivys (Harvard, Yale, etc) are still regarded as better ones - at least that is the common perception, which does not necessarily reflect the truth.

But apart from these universities, is it true that your PhD degrees are considered being equal in value, whether you study in France, Russia, or China?

Okay, this is an extension to an earlier question.
Some background: I'm 22 years old and after I finished college, I started working at a newspaper in my home town. The rule in my home is that you do not move out unless you're married or working in another town/city. So now I'm staying at my parent's house. I feel this is the best until I find my feet. I've already applied for other jobs in another city. This shows my need to get out of my parents' house. My sister is 6 years older than me. She has a great job and an even better salary.
Now the problem: She's also still staying at my parents's house. She refuses to leave!!! I mean, I can't wait to get out, and she wants to stay there. And that's not all. She earns almost three times the amount I am, but she's forever borrowing money from my mom. AND... never pays back!!! How can I kick her out of the nest without hurting her feelings... or her butt.

This is a serious question, and I mean no disrespect to you, your prophet (peace be upon him), or your religion. But some governments in the Muslim world do things that we in the West don't quite understand -- like jail a woman for naming a teddy bear after Mohamed (peace be upon him). In the West, many of us have a live and let live attitude with regard to religion. We do our own thing, you do yours, and everyone is free to believe what they want, although we do debate it vigorously.

So, my question is -- would any of you support a government that supported freedom of religion for non-Muslims, a woman's right to choose to wear or not wear the burkah, and more leniency for those may have offended your religion without intending to?

Please, respectful answers only. I ask this in the spirit of wanting to understand you, and in peaceful co-existence.

Thank you. And Happy Eid.

Has anyone else read about this? Apparently Yorkshire NHS trust has now decreed that nurses must agree to move the beds of Muslims patients so that five times a day they face Mecca?

Can anyone confirm or deny this? Apparently there is an article about it in several British newspapers but I don't have the links.

What are your thoughts?

They gave told her to hire an attorney and that they would send him the money for court.....she is not good with money so they sent it directly to him. We are court ordered to pay an amount every month and have cancelled checks showing what we pay. My question is this....since she lied, are we going to be able to recoup the court costs and attorney fees for this? This is not the first time she has pulled this.....$1,000 - at Christmas time no less......realy very wrong.
