"Of the Good in you I can speak, but not of the Evil. For what is Evil but Good-tortured by its own hunger and thirst? When Good is hungry, it seeks food, even in dark caves, and when it thirsts, it drinks even of dead waters."

I love this quote, I just wish I knew what it meant and who quoted it.

btw, if you know a website with other awesome quotes like this, I'd like to know it! [:

I'm writing an essay for school. If I wanted to quote Ghandi for his saying "an eye for an eye leaves the world blind", do I have to say his name in my essay or can I just put it in quotes? Thanks! Also, the essay doesn't relate to Ghandi, but his quote ties in to what I'm saying.

I've been researching a photographer named Eugene Atget. Couldn't figure out what his quote meant: "A good photograph is like a good hound dog, dumb, but eloquent."
Not sure what he means by "dumb".

What is meant by this quote?

"You say I am mysterious
Let me explain myself
In a land of oranges
I am faithful to apples."

I found this poem online but don't really understand it. I like how it starts out, but would really like to know what others think of the poem.
(I don't know if it's sort of like carpe diem or something else)

Days

Each one is a gift, no doubt,
mysteriously placed in your waking hand
or set upon your forehead
moments before you open your eyes.

Today begins cold and bright,
the ground heavy with snow
and the thick masonry of ice,
the sun glinting off the turrets of clouds.

Through the calm eye of the window
everything is in its place
but so precariously
this day might be resting somehow

on the one before it,
all the days of the past stacked high
like the impossible tower of dishes
entertainers used to build on stage.

No wonder you find yourself
perched on the top of a tall ladder
hoping to add one more.
Just another Wednesday,

you whisper,
then holding your breath,
place this cup on yesterday's saucer
without the slightest clink.
