They both work hard and are law abbiding but are struggling to make ends meet and can not claim anything.
During our working lives we were the same, but now we are retired we can also claim nothing and are in fact penalised by taxes.Do we just reward the idol ,lazy, and company failures in this country.COME THE REVOLUTION,Merry Christmas to all.

AMEN! I am so sick of busting my behind and paying taxes so that some people can take advantage of government assistance. I agree that some people do honestly need help and I am all for helping people out, doing charity work or volunteering my time to benefit others but it makes me so angry when I hear about people who are scamming the system. They lie to get public assistance when they don't qualify. We are paying for that, for liars and lazy people. Oh man, now I'm all in an uproar about it!

True, if you are single and on benefits you are much better of, some fella opposite me has never done a proper days job, how he manages to stay on the dole baffles me as you are supposed to get regular reviews, he is perfectly able bodied and spends time on his bike as he gets bored yet, he is in a smart council flat, gets the rent paid for and even has enough benefit money left over to pay for a Sky system, its disgraceful, lazy bugger! Too many of these con artists get away with it but if you are a genuine hard worker you end up worse off!

yea its like that here 2 in cali. i work at a school and not to sound racist but i probly will sound that way. all the indian kids and asian kids are all welfare/food stamps yet they're covered in jewlery so are their parents. yet if a hispanic white family try to get any state help they tell them they have to sell all their personal belongings before they can even check to see if they qualify. a parent once told me that she went to a welfare office to see if she can can get help she's a single mom with a dead beat dad and they told her to sell her car all jewlery any kids toys and anything else of value let them know how much she got for everything. she said no how am i going to get around town and what not so the welfare person told her well you're pretty i think you can do good on the streets at night when ur kids are sleeping. i was totally dumbfounded when she told me this. yet in nevada my sister and her hubby and baby are on welfare and they only ask that you dont make more than $38k a year. welfare is weird

I agree. My Mum has worked hard and is now a pensioner. Because she still works full time she gets taxed on her pension, which is disgusting. She should not be taxed on this and should be able to live the good life. I live in a smallish town and we have so many p kids here who are single parents. You can tell them. They are the ones dressed in designer clothing with about 20 bags of shopping on their pushchairs smoking all over their kids. I think it is about time this government started looking after the people who work hard and keep this country going.

we had the same situation! my friend was divorced and got loads of tax credits and maintenance and was working in a stress free part time job! she got help with her childcare and extra for her!!

My husband is a teacher and earns a good wage, i was a childminder so we only got £30 per month in tax credits!

when we worked it out she got £200 more per month than us for a family of 2 compared to us a family of 4

we both lived on the same street us with a huge mortgage and neighbour with a mortgage of £15,000. her out goings were half ours but she got loads of benefits!

the government need to rethink how they test for tax credits!

don't get me wrong we should help the poor! people in financial crisis and not social crisis.

we have now left the country for a better life where we are respected for our jobs and family status.

It`s because ,the cost of living is so much higher, than it been in decades. If they both don`t have high paying jobs, it might make economic sense for your daughter in- law to stay home. They are programs for for poor people, that would increase their net. You must have some money, to be retired & pay taxes. Help, em out.I have in-laws, who only survive on social security, they don`t pay taxes. But, they are poor!

You Said It!!!!

Hard workers are definitely penalised in this country!

My mum could not claim benefits when she was made redundant even tho she had been a tax payer for decades - they also counted her mortgage payments (from mortgage protection insurance) as an income and taxed it!!!!!

You know instead of complaining that you had such a good life you needed no help maybe you should just be thankful that your children make good enough money to not need to get extra benefits. And that you didnt either. Merry Christmas.
