I live near Hampden Park - officially the most busy rail crossing in Europe.

Often, the barrier goe's down and the flashing red lights come on at least a whole minute before the train crosses - obviously this leads to frustration with the drivers waiting.

Are there any UK Railway Engineers/Guards out there who can explain this.

Is it a safety regulation that the barriers have to be lowered long before the train crosses??

Thanks.

Is this a fault in science because atheists claims science as their own yet they don't believe in some areas of it...

I can understand becoming a vegetarian for health reasons and becoming a vegan is your own personal choice; but why is PETA trying to convert the whole world? I've seen PETA on cable news channels lying about Jesus being a vegetarian and telling people that beer is better than milk for your bones. PETA also says that humans only ate things like berries in the beginning and only started eating meat because it tastes good. If PETA actually looked at real science, they would know that all apes are naturally omnivores (eat animals and plants). PETA would also know that if people were to become vegans before industrialization and the globalization of the world's economies, they would suffer from protein deficiency. It's not like ancient people had the means to make veggie burgers in factories and could ship soy products across the world. I'm all for the humane treatment of animals and I believe they should only be killed to be eaten. Why doesn't PETA try to stop lions from killing zebras?

I'm writing a novel that takes place in 1930, around Great Depression time. These are the 3 main characters.

Byron McKenny - 13 year old boy who has childish antics, but is working in Texas as a farmhand. Reddish-brown hair, blue eyes, freckles.

Daisy Rosebud Lowell - 13 year old Texas "cowgirl" falls in love with Byron. She has long brown hair and oak-colored eyes. Serious by day, Playful by night.

Jason Michael Lowell - 29 year old, holds the secret of Daisy being his daughter, but she doesn't know that. Brown hair, Brown eyes, the whole bit. Longing to be free

In a tiny village on the Irish coast lived an old lady, a virgin and very proud of it.
Sensing that her final days were rapidly approaching, and desiring to make sure everything was in proper order when she dies, she went to the town's undertaker (who also happened to be the local postal clerk) to make the proper "final" arrangements.
As a last wish, she informed the undertaker that she wanted the following inscription engraved on her tombstone:
"BORN A VIRGIN, LIVED AS A VIRGIN, DIED A VIRGIN"

Not long after, the old maid died peacefully. A few days after the funeral, as the undertaker/postal clerk went to prepare the tombstone that the lady had requested, it became quite apparent that the tombstone that she had selected was much too small for the wording that she had chosen. He thought long and hard about how he could fulfill the old maid's final request, considering the very limited space available on the small piece of stone.

For days, he agonized over the dilemma. But finally his experience as a postal worker allowed him to come up with what he thought was the appropriate solution to the problem. The virgin's tombstone was finally completed and duly engraved, and it read as follows:

"RETURNED UNOPENED"

York council have decided to ban fois gras, I'm no fan of the French, the BBC have confirmed that they have never forgiven the UK for agincourt, a battle won back in 1415!

I suppose it's similar to Liverpool never forgiving Manchester for building a big canal and taking away their cities tax revenue but I digress.

I believe there can only be so much suffering in the world, extending animal misery alleviates human suffering, it's a theory with holes in it however for a council to decide what it's people can or can't consume is, in my opinion, reprehensible, your views here:
