I can understand becoming a vegetarian for health reasons and becoming a vegan is your own personal choice; but why is PETA trying to convert the whole world? I've seen PETA on cable news channels lying about Jesus being a vegetarian and telling people that beer is better than milk for your bones. PETA also says that humans only ate things like berries in the beginning and only started eating meat because it tastes good. If PETA actually looked at real science, they would know that all apes are naturally omnivores (eat animals and plants). PETA would also know that if people were to become vegans before industrialization and the globalization of the world's economies, they would suffer from protein deficiency. It's not like ancient people had the means to make veggie burgers in factories and could ship soy products across the world. I'm all for the humane treatment of animals and I believe they should only be killed to be eaten. Why doesn't PETA try to stop lions from killing zebras?

The diet of other apes is 90% vegetarian; but they do supplement their diet by eating insects and chimps have been documented as being seen killing small animals. The Discovery actually had a documentary showing chimpanzees hunting.

Did I ever say that vegans and vegetarians suffer from protein deficiency? No. I said people would have suffered from protein deficiency in the past because they don't have access to the foods vegetarians have access to now.

I completely agree. I am a vegan, but PETA is drastically distorting the matter. Instead of attempting to inform the world in a civilized manner of the positives and negatives of harming animals, they choose to torment those who eat meat. By ridiculing, lying, and even spying on meat eaters, those who once considered not eating meat often revise their opinion due to PETA's actions. PETA also gives a bad name to vegetarians and vegans. When I tell people I am vegan, they instantly think of PETA (since it is the most well-known animal rights organization) and then jump to the conclusion that I am some kind of maniac who would rather kill my friend than a fish.
Thus, thank you for pointing out the terrors of PETA, and I assure you (as you probably know) that not every vegetarian or vegan ignores the science and humanity of the situation.

people didn't start eating meat because it tastes good. humans were forced to find other sources of food during the second ice age since there was a lack of vegetation. with the knowledge to produce fire, they realized that they could heat animal flesh enough so that they wouldn't get sick after eating it.
i think it's a bold move stating that vegans suffer from protein defficiency, especially on a vegetarian and vegan forum.
the real issue here (even though I'm starting to believe that questions like this should be posted on an ethics board) is that PETA works very hard to raise awareness about factory farming, animals used for clothing, entertainment and science--and how they are all mistreated for the benefit of a more intelligence species. it's ok to disagree with people's beliefs, but you should respect their conviction to stand for what they believe.
(your question about lions killing zebras): lions are carnivors. it would be inhumane to force a diet on them which would be unhealthy for them. i'm a vegan, although i feed my cat meat.

There is a slightly bigger issue than just the fact that they dont want you to eat meat, eating meat is fine...that's the okay bit...there are animals that kill to eat as well. However!! and that is a big however! The way humans farm and kill animals is revolting and cruel. Crate pigs for instance hardly have room to turn around. There have been photos taken of dead pigs with flies around them lying amongst the live ones. Poultry farming is also revoltingly cruel. I see no harm in killing an animal if it has lived a relatively happy and healthy life. And with the ape thing apes arent carnivorous or vegetarian they are actually omnivorous. Pigs, birds and various other animals as well as humans are omnivorous which means we eat both plant and animal matter. It is your choice whether you go vege or not and no one should force you to become one, but it is however important to raise awareness of the shocking conditions our farmed animals are in.

People should feel free to eat whatever they want. Being a Vege is a real huge choice and so is being a meat eater. Whatever, but i have to say it would be very easy for me to completely give up meat because i'm an animal lover and the thought of tuckn into a stake or lamb or pig is not good to me. Yuk, it makes my stomach turn. But, i'll eat eggs, fish, drink milk. Why, cose i like it and they taste nice too.
Just my opinion!

its not nessareily the people eating the animals that they have a problem with-not even the actually killing-PETA stands for the People for the Ethical TREATMENT of Animals-so theyre really concerned for how the big farming companies and slaughter houses are treating them before they die (tiney pens, chemical foods, ect)-thats why there incouraging people to buycott said companies by eating less meat--it mostly is a problem in the states btw-good thing im Canadian:P

there are alot of groups out there trying to "convert the whole world" and most efforts have failed. but look at the theory of evolution.. just a theory, and a crazy one at that. but look at all the people that bought in to it.. look at all the people who have already been "convicted" by killing animals and now they are in buy into the peta theory/group. they're just trying to add numbers.. but if they really have any sense at all.. (which is kinda questionable! :) ) then they'll see that man is never going to give up meat. and he shouldn't have to. God made animals for us to raise, and also for us to eat. that's what life is.. when people try to change how life works, it's never right! i agree with you. ok.. well i'm not really sure what your question was, but hope this will do! :)

I agree with you 100%. It seems as if they act like a cult and I have found a good many falsehoods in what they say as well. I don't have a problem with someone wanting to be a vegetarian, but PETA takes it way overboard.
I don't believe in treating animals poorly. On the farm when I was growing up we treated our animals well and when it came time to kill them, we did it quickly. It is just part of life.
Oh and by the way...I LOVE meat!

I became a vegetarian for animal rights, and I used to be a member of PETA, but I'm not anymore. I'm more into the HSUS (I always have been)...but recently I've gotten more involved with them. I respect my friend's decisions to eat meat, and they respect mine not to. We all have our different opinions and religions.
