The reason is that they do not want to identify themselves to any character. It ain't about believing in God it is about not knowing who you are. If you really know you, you will eventually find Truth. Truth and God are the same thing.

Celine, people all over our country are asking the same question. I believe the biggest reason over here (USA) is because the majority of our public schools and colleges teach:
+ Humanism: The idea that man is highest source of creative intelligence in the universe (especially for himself).
+ Evolution: The idea that the existence of life and everything that sustains it is the result of billions of years of changes in matter, dependent completely on the forces of nature and happenstance, having nothing to do with the intention of anyone, especially a "God" for which people are taught there is no scientific proof of what-so-ever.
+ Secularism: The idea that you should base your view of life upon what is happening in the moment because you don't know which moment will be your last. Your not guaranteed another moment and your certainly not guaranteed life after death or deliverance from a "God" that you don't see delivering anybody, especially with all the suffering and unfair treatment in the world etc. It complements the idea of "survival of the fittest" in that your survival is dependent upon how aggressively you pursue survival in each moment. This of course completely apposes to the Christian idea that you should rely on God for your survival and your needs not only in this life, but in the one to come.
~ To add to this, our news media, entertainment, and arts all overwhelmingly support the above views with basically no question of validity of the opposition. In fact, blatant sincere cynicism towards faith (especially Christian) dominates these professions and many many others, but most notably the universities.
So really, you have to wonder how anybody can retain their faith these days. It is extraordinarily difficult.... at least that has been my experience. If it hasn't been for the fact that God has continually proven Himself to me, and that I have documented how He has answered every prayer in ways that are not always exactly how I want but turn out better for me and those around me than I could have ever imagined, I wouldn't be a believer either. I don't blame people as much for their unbelief as I blame those with beliefs that don't share them. Blessings!!

They only rely on human reason and senses to decide what to believe in. But within every human being is planted a thirst and hunger for meaning. Some find it in material things, some in another person, some in a project. However, if anyone works to improve the lot of human beings (read, human development) it is also fulfilling the desire of God (as Christians know him) for man to be fully alive! Even without believing, they would be doing God's will!

cos in your country, people are more confident of themselves and knowing you control your own destiny. People believe in God cos they don't feel confident or helpless and seeking an imaginary forces out there would make them feel better. Just like some people used to thought that mineral water that flows down the mountain would make one feel extremely refresh and cleanses the body, even though they later discover that those were no better than normal tap water. It's psychological, but it work wonders.

I do not believe in god and religion for the following reasons
1) there is not indisputable proof of gods existence
2) religion has been the cause of many suffering in the world and a majority of wars were started in the name of god.
3) religion has been used to justify murder in the past.

My hope is that no one will ever "believe in" God. When I say "I Believe" I am saying that something is probably true but there is a chance that it may not be. "I believe its raining in China." It probably is - but it might not be. "I know its raining in FL." No uncertainty. I am experiencing the rain and can tell you that it IS raining in Florida.
That is the experience people need to have with God. "I believe" needs to be replaced by "I KNOW".
Do I believe in God, NO! I KNOW God is active in my life and present in the world. Sit down here and I'll explain how I know...

Some people don't believe in what they can't see. They rely on science. Others used to believe but feel they were let down by religion and it made them not believe in God. As a Christian, I live and let live.

It's what you're brought up in.
And what you're taught.
For most people,
if they are brought up knowing there is no God,
they'll believe it.
Being a Christian or not can also depend on peers,
and just personal experience.

if I am a Christian, I wouldn't blame the people for not believing in God. it's because of the examples of many people professing to be Christians, but are hateful of others. that's what I personally think.

It depends on what your definition of "God" is.
If it's that benevolent/angry/loving/ hateful/ forgiving/spiteful creature that lives in the clouds with angels and has the beard with white robes and so on..... well, that's just an imaginary friend for grown-ups. We created that guy, not the other way around.
But if it's the force that is inherent in the universe, that is a different thing all together. Our tiny monkey brains are incapable of understanding what "God" is so we create this fiction of how we think our "creator" wants us to live and how it thinks.
