Places to live while commuting to Washington, D.C.?

I may be relocating to Washington, DC for my job. I'm trying to get an idea on what areas would be best. I'm married, with a child coming, any thoughts or ideas on a city nearby that would work would be appreciated. I'd commute up to an hour.
