Any of the hotels in the "Market Center" area just north of downtown on Market Center Boulevard and Stemmons Freeway (Route 35) are great. You can find all ranges of cost and amenities there, from low budget to high luxury. Some may even have shuttles to the AAC, but if not, it's a short cab ride. This area is out of the downtown fray but close enough to be very convenient.
You can check them out here:

If price is not a consideration and you want the best and closest, it's definitely the new W Dallas Victory Hotel:

Good luck!

The best hotel in Dallas is the Adolphus. Its been consistently rated one of the 10 best hotels in the United States. I have not seen the new W hotel, but Ws are consistently great. The Hyatt is ok and it is near. Avoid the Adams Mark. My clients hate it. Westin City Center is nice. The beds are excellent. If you like a boutique type hotel, the Magnolia is fun. The Fairmont doesnt look like much on the outside, but the rooms are lovely and the Pyramid room has great food. The Hilton Anatole is ok, but far from the most prestigious hotel in Dallas. That would be the Mansion on Turtle Creek, which is not very convienent for where you are going. If you like a really fun place the Hotel Zazu is really unique! The Market Center area is ok, but kind of cold and not much goes on there. I hope you enjoy Dallas! (And I would stay at the Adolphus if I were you.)

Other choices would be the Westin City Center (Maybe Adams Mark now) and there is also a Holiday Inn downtown. There are also an Embassy and Homewood Suites over by the market center. Any of these would be a short cab/hotel shuttle ride from the AAC. Check out the AAC website.
Also Bailey's Uptown Inn is a cool bed and breakfast for fairly reasonable rates; so is the Southern Place in "Uptown." I highly recommend B&Bs for a more friendly, fun adult stay.

If cost isn't an issue, stay at the newly opened "W" Hotel in Downtown Dallas. At the top of it is Ghost Bar, a very trendy night club.
