I am relocating mysefl at Houston from India with my wife and Mom. Is it a good idea to buy a home right away and stay or rent for some time and then buy? I can spend US$ 1000 per month on rent / monthly installment and about US$ 10000 as down payment, if I want to buy a home. I am 48 years now!

I plan on moving to California and going to school at San Fransisco State University next semester. I've been trying to find moderate places to live that are on the Bart system so I can communte.

I've narrowed it down to Hayward, Concord, and Pittsburg. Does anyone have advice on any of these places?

I''m from southamerica but I currenntly live in Alaska where I study. Recently got a job in NYC but thinkin' about moving to clifton, NJ and just commuting to the city via NJ transit, train etc. does anyone know what this city is like? is there good prices for apartments? also - am I able to get around this city (food shopping, entertainment, etc) without having a car? thanks.

I'm currently at San diego, California ( first time here ! ) and i'm planning to go to Los Angeles. Unfortunatley I dont have a car right now. So i thought about a bus like greyhound, or a cap ( $200 !? )
