Excalibur is great. It's reasonably priced and located on a great place on the strip. It's in walking distance from Mandalay Bay, Luxor, MGM Grand, New York New York and Tropicana. They also have a lot of different restaurants located within the hotel and casino area.

Like a few others that have already answered, the Stratosphere is a great place to stay for the money spent. They have most of your gambling needs plus a few shops, McDonald's and Starbucks. Is it older than some of the others and at the North end of the Strip? Yes. However, there is a monorail station and bus stop directly across the street making travel a breeze. We have stayed there numerous times (and we walked from there to the Luxor with no problem) and enjoy having the extra $$$ to spend rather than blowing it on a room that we won't spend much time in anyway. If you do stay at the Stratosphere, make sure you check out Lucky's diner. They run specials about every 6 hours and you can get a decent meal for CHEAP. Hope this helps!

On the strip Imperial Palace is the most inexpensive, and its very lively with $5 blackjack tables. Downtown, the nicest is Golden Nuggut, but more expensive than say Horeshoe, still affordable though. Stratosphere is probably the one of the cheapest and nicest hotels for the money and located in the middle of the strip and downtown. F... Circus Circus, its rundown and dirty, but very cheap.

We've stayed at the Stratosphere a few times and really liked it. It has a huge tower with thrill rides on the top. Also the dealers in the casino are very friendly.

People on Yahoo answers used to rave about "The Orleans". I would check that out. Myself, I got a clean room, though a bit dated at the Tropicana. It was an upgrade and was less than $50 a night and even cheaper once I checked out and cashed out my comps on their generous program.

depends if you want to stay on the strip or downtown. I stayed downtown at the plaza - it was very nice. And downtown was the only place I seemed to win in the casinos.
