My husband and I went to Paris over the holidays and were very disappointed by the city in general -- the museums and food are wonderful, but the city is vastly overrated otherwise.

One big downer to the vacation was the people. The people in Paris are rude and unfriendly. This is the first vacation I've taken where the locals were so unwilling to help us. People say that the French are only like this toward Americans, but this is not true (we are not American, were not speaking English, and they were still rude). I didn't realize what a difference the locals make in shaping one's vacation, but it really is true.

I had high hopes for Paris but came away very disappointed. There are plenty of better places to visit where the people are warm and inviting.

It's small but has so much to offer. Mountains, ocean, city and country. All within short driving time. You can visit D.C., Baltimore and that cute little town Annapolis. I miss Maryland.

My friend's girlfriend, from ITALY, came into Canada. From Canada, she cam accross the border into Buffalo, NY without any kind of visa's or documents to get in. Is that the same across the board for all countries? Specifically, is that OK for people from the Philippines. From my understanding, they don't need any kind of documents as they have a passport. I mean, when I go abroad, I am just asked at the airport for my U.S. Passport and that's about it. Any answer, or where to find the correct answer would be greatly appreciated. Especially for those who have had family/friends from the Philippines visit them here in the United States.

I'm going to be taking a vacation around Lake Superior this summer. What is there to do in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario; Thunder Bay, Ontario; and Duluth, Minnesota? I'm wanting to do a lot of outdoorsy things. Not really into tourist trap things, but I do want to do the tourist things that are recommended. Does anyone know of anything good to do in those areas?

I will be going to the Philippines in May. I need to know a good place to stay that won't dent my wallet. I stayed at the Diamond Manila Hotel last August and would like something nice like that but not so expensive? Any ideas or suggestions. Or any beautiful locations to visit in the P.I. that won't be to expensive but have lots to do and Air Conditioning.

Both countries are known elsewhere for being "expensive", but which is more expensive and in what areas?

And why is Japanese food in the UK so bloody expensive? I can get a wonderful meal at an Italian restaurant for a reasonable £7-8, but a meal of comparable quality and quantity would cost £15-20 at a Japanese restaurant!

And the nearest Korean restaurant is a ruddy 40 miles away in Glasgow (I live in Edinburgh). So add £9 for a return train ticket to the cost of the meal >_

A little about myself:
I'm Chinese British. I was born here (down south in Kent to be exact) but I lived in Taiwan for the last 10 years, and I only returned (to Edinburgh) last September.

So what do I feel about prices in Edinburgh?
- Rent... fair enough, lower than what we paid in Taiwan.
- Food... Italian is reasonable, but Asian is too bloody expensive!! Asian food isn't supposed to be so expensive!!
- Everything else... not noticeably different from what I'm used to.
