I will be going to the Philippines in May. I need to know a good place to stay that won't dent my wallet. I stayed at the Diamond Manila Hotel last August and would like something nice like that but not so expensive? Any ideas or suggestions. Or any beautiful locations to visit in the P.I. that won't be to expensive but have lots to do and Air Conditioning.

Ignore the answers recommending MAKATI SHANGRI-LA. I stay there on business and it's the best hotel in Manila. It will make a SERIOUS dent in your wallet.

Hotels around Ermita and Malate are the best value (us$30 - 40 a nite). Check asiarooms.com for a complete list. Safe to book on there too.

I grew up in the streets of the Philippines! Pinoy ako! So I should know a lot! My mom's friends came over to the NCR, where I lived and where Manila is. They lived far away so they couldn't go back the same day. They checked in at the Manila Hotel. Nice humonguous rooms, nice comfy beds and nice service. It sits right next to the walled city. It's a great historic fortress in Manila. Since it's may and I'ts gonan be hot there, try hanging out in malls. SM ASIA is the biggest mall in Asia and it is in Manila. It will take you a week or two to finish going around it. So, only use 1 day on it. You can go to Fort Santiago and see the golden foot steps of our beloved national hero, Jose Rizal. They lead where Jose Rizal was shot by a firing squad. You can try going to wet markets. Foreigners really like them. Freshly butcherred meat and fresh vegetables everywhere.

If you're not willing to spend much, don't stay at 5 star hotels like makati or edsa shanri-la or manila hotel. manila diamond like you said is not so expensive. you can try Manila Pavillion located at U.N. Ave, Manila. It's near bars and near the BAYWALK. Nightlife is alive. =) If you want surfin' you can try visit La Union, or scuba diving in palawan or batangas. try to visit wow philippines.but i don't know their website.

I have a 32sqm fully furnished studio unit at "Malayan Plaza" that is available in May. The building is in Ortigas Center, 5-10minutes walk to big shopping malls like SM Megamall/Podium/Robinson's Galleria/Shangrila Plaza and MRT stations. A ride away to Greenhills Shopping Center and Tiendesitas. Rate for two weeks is 25,000pesos. If interested, email me at rafaelukas@yahoo.com

Discovery Suites, it's across from Podium and Megamall in Ortigas.
Try getting a local to make the reservation so you can get the local rate, which is about 50% cheaper than if you were to book the room on your own.
