I was thinking of renting a car in Athens, driving it north to the Turkish border (or somewhere close) and taking a bus or a train to Istanbul for my return flight home. but the car rental companies seem to take a huge sum for one-way car rentals. does anyone know of a way to get a one-way car rental that doesn't cost as much? how else can this be done?

While visiting Rome, I've noticed a beautiful tree, sort of pine with branches up high, which I found very beautiful. There are several of them aligned in the via del Fori Imperiali leading to the Coloseum. I asked some italians but none of them could name the tree. Does someone know which tree is that and the scientific name?

The SA Football Association (Safa) have offered incoming Bafana Bafana coach Carlos Alberto Parreira a R1.8m per month salary. Don't you think this is too much? And if not, what makes him worth all that money? Will he be able to prove his worth in time or can we already assume that this was a mistake?

I have a week's holiday and I would like to go somewhere reasonably nice but cheap to get to from the UK where I can do my PADI training. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I would prefer not to go to Turkey or Egypt.

Please be as specific as you want.

Cheers

Three small bombs aimed at the tourist sector in the main Marmaris resort went off at the weekend. This is becomming an annual occurance in Turkey, from the Kurdish breakaway terrorist group trying to hurt the turkish economy / push for independence. Im fully paid up and the holiday is non refundable.
