I want to go on a weekend trip to Salzburg, but I'm unsure the cheapest/best way to get there? Train, bus or driving? Thanks for any help!

Nearly every hour departs a nonstop train from Stuttgart to Salzburg, so that u won't get lost at Munich Main Station.
The one way fare is 59EUR ( 2nd class ), a seat reservation costs EUR 3,- .
Travel time is 4 hours.
U can check times and fares under www. bahn.de ( also available in english )

Bus:

There a bus which operates twice a week for EUR 32.
This u can check under :

Have a nice day

I know trains are quite expensive in Germany and Austria. I have two suggestions. Check out asite on the internet called mitfahrenzentrum.com or something close to that. I translatesin english to ridingwithcentral. Its a sight where people who are driving to other places in Germany and neighbouring countries will put up a notice especially for others to go with themand share the cost of the drive. There are always heaps of free places you just have to email the people and they will get back to you and make arrangements. Their contact details are on the sight. Id say from Stuttgart to Salzburg you have a very good chance of getting a direct lift for about 20 euros. The site is used alot by Germans, Polish, Austrians and anyone who has heard of itbecause its so easy, cheap and environmentaly friendly. You just have to be willing to meet new people. The other suggestion is is a cheap flight but there would probablly be none direct.

I think you could take a weekend train for cheep. I think there are buses too but train is probably the best. If you are a resident you can usually get good rates on the weekends. I think the train goes from Stuttgart to Munich and then to Salzburg. Ask at the train station that is probably the best.

Hamburg and Bremen would make no sense . they are off your route. Apart from that, I like the suggestions here. From Berlin, you should go to Potsdam, Dresden, Prague, Nuremburg, Munich ans Salzburg. That yould be a straightforward route consisting of beautiful, ancient cities. The in-betweens and additional stops are up to you really. Near Dresden, for example, you have the "Nationalpark Sächsische Schweiz", which is a very beatiful landscape for doing walks and taking pictures; also there is a famous park on the German-Polish border near Görlitz. Once you are in Bavaria, you have a vast choice of historical cities (Würzburg, Bamberg, Regensburg, Augsburg, etc.); and in Austria, you can go on travelling, as long as you have got time and money, seeing Innsbruck, Villach, Graz in particular, Vienna, and then just across the borders you have Bratislava, Ljubljana and Zagrab.

Munich is a huge town with: cafe, nightlife and accommodation entries, with hotelbye , you'll have a look. Munich is the capital town of Bavaria and the third-most populous city in Germany. For centuries the seat of the Dukes, Electors, and Leaders of Bavaria, the Munich Residenz is without a doubt certainly one of Europe's most spectacular palaces. Presented around eight large courts, the vast resident complex comprises three major sections: the Königsbau, fronting in to Max-Joseph-Platz; the Alte Residenz, facing Residenzstrasse; and the Festsaalbau (Banqueting Hall) overlooking the Hofgarten. The first section of the big complex to be created was the superb Antiquarium, integrated 1579 and now the main excellent Residenz Museum. Munich is a city with lots of history, make sure to explore it whole.

By train = it is very easy and just look at the schedule. it is very convenient and on time. if you want to get the assigned seat you have to pay a little extra if not - you have to move around. its better to pay little extra and do not forget to use the time clock to punch in on your ticket. they only has someone to check your ticket on the moving train.

watch for pit pocket - they use razor blade and cut your backpack or purses

expensive stuff, eg LV purses. - you need to bring your passport
and get the ax refund in the airport

Ok well go on mapquest.com and search the directions. Then you will know how far the drive is. Call Sato and find out how much the train ticket would be. Too easy.
