It's for two people and I'm mostly interested in a central location (walking distance to all of the major attractions) for under £500 for a week.
Thanks.

when you mail a package or letter to Rome? I sent my son some personal items and it cost $56.00 on my end for a package that only weighed 7lbs.....but when he went to the post office to retrieve it, he had to pay a whopping $70.00 in customs fees........whyyyyyyyyyyyy??????????

We are going to be in Rome at the end of October and want to see the Roma v. Lazio soccer (football/calcio) game. How can you buy tickets (the Roma website is in Italian - no English translation)? When do tickets become available to buy?

Okay, here is a list of places I want to visit while in Rome:

I want to take a day trip to Pompeii
The Colosseum
Arch of Constantine
St. Peter's Basilica
The Vatican museums
Catacombs (haven't decided which yet...I guess the Catacombs of St. Callixtus)
The Trevi fountain
Circus Maximus
The Pantheon
Church of St. Peter in Chains
Capitoline Museum
The Roman Forum
Baths of Caracella
Villa Borghese
Mamertine Prison
The Victor Emanuel Monument (I hear that Italians dislike this landmark because it is overly-ornate...is that true?)

I know that I'll want to spend more time in some of these places than others...but, I want to visit them all. I'll be in Rome for 8 days (I know, not much time but it's all I could afford) and want to see them all. So, how should I schedule my time? Thanks!

my fiance and i are travelling to Rome for the 1st time in August - v.exciting! we arrive at Fiumicino airport about lunch time and we need a cheap way to get to our hotel - Castello della Castelluccia. we know we can get the train but i am a bit apprehensive seeing as it is our 1st time in Rome and i am worried that we will get lost!! how easy is it to navigate the trains (we know no italian but i have brought an italian phrasebook to help us!) and would you think this an ok way to get to our hotel? we dont want to spend a lot of money on a taxi - we are on a budget and want plenty for eating out and sight seeing! also, how much would the train fare be roughly and how long the journey? also, ive read that shorts arent acceptable in the city centre - is this correct and should we not wear shorts?! any other tips would be greatly appreciated too! thank you so much to anyone who replies!

By 'fun and authentic things' in mean things which are unique to that particular city.

ie BARCELONA (visit Sagrada Famillia, ride on the cable car, ascend the heights of Tibidabo, go sightseeing in the Exiemple, peruse the trophy room of the Nou Camp, party on Las Ramblas etc)

But what can I do in Rome which is unique to Rome?

I'm going to be in Rome for a week and I was wondering if there are tickets that can be used for free public transportation(buses, metro, etc.), discounts/free access to monuments and discounts to some restaurants. I know that most big cities in Europe have something like this. Does Rome have this or something similar?

Looking for a restaurant serving Roman cuisine (is there roman cuisine?) near Piazza Navona. We will be having a family dinner for 11 people on August 3 and I have been tasked with finding a tasty place.

I'm going to Rome on Friday June 29th.I need to know what are must see attractions. And I already know that June 29 is a Holiday so I was wondering what would be closed on that day, because that is the only day that I can stay in Rome before I leave to Pisa.

Thanx

I am planning my first trip outside the U.S. to Rome, Italy. I am skeptical about renting a car. The driving is not a problem for me, it's the parking. When parking for shops, restaurants, and museums, are there street parking? Metered stalls? Parking lots? Basically, waht's the parking situations in Rome, Italy?
