I am going to Italy today and I am kind of scared I don't want to try to understand Italian people because I don't speak that language. Do many people speak English there?

I'm traveling to Rome next summer, and my mother recently acquired the knowledge on how friendly Italian men are known to be. She thinks I'm going to be attacked or something....any advice on how to reassure her I'll be fine?

Going on a study abroad trip and will be going to Rome and Florence on one of our open weekends. I might have to go alone so does anyone have any advice; how to act, what to look out for, etc. Anything to make my trip more enjoyable.

Ok, I've worked out the common sense stuff.....I need to know about the things that aren't so obvious. I already know what I need to get to go, and I have found out everything about the culture that I can (I fell in love with Italy when I was 15) and I speak the language fairly well. I've looked up everything from crime rates to the average temperatures. I just want to make sure I've not left anything out. So any advice would be helpful. Oh, and also, I only plan on living there for about a year before I go to college because I won't have the chance to go after I get out. Oh, and another thing, I'll be traveling there and living there by myself until I make friends there, though I will have a room mate because I will only be able to afford to rent a room in an apartment, not the whole thing :( Thanks!

I'm singing in the International Festival of Choirs, but want to see as much of Ancient Rome as I can. I think short hops from Vatican City would be best, to intersect with the singing engagements. The dates are 27th July to 2nd August. I am also a fan of Lindsey Davis.

Would the city be "up and running" against by that time? I've been reading a lot of posts warning people not to travel to the city in late August (which sucks, 'cause that's when summer school ends for me), but is early September any better in terms of crowdedness, humidity, site closures, etc? Thanks!

People say that when it is summer, all the locals are out so that means there will be no places to go and enjoy our stay. This is our first time to travel to Europe. These last 2 weeks of Aug. are the only available weeks we can take a vacation.

I'm going to visit Italy for around 23 nights and I'll be in Rome for 5 nights (honeymoon). What section of Rome would be best to stay in (and why)? Or even where NOT to stay would be amazing! Please be detailed about how it is getting around if possible... and what the section is like.. I'm trying to get this all booked tonight. Thank you!
