Because they get all the nasty weather from the Atlantic, I suppose in Ireland it's even worse. They do have some occasional sunshine, though, and we here on the continent are unlucky as well sometimes (for example right now, it's been raining for weeks in August).
I reckon you just caught a bad spell.
By the way, how do you know it's spring in UK?

that's their climate. it's not just a myth that the British always talk about the weather and carry an umbrella all the time. it really rains hard in the UK because it is, practically, a group of islands caught between the North Sea, the Atlantic and the Channel, and all the wet air masses collide on the British mainland.

the weather in the north east is pretty good. still rains but not as much as in other places in uk. very cold though

I lived in Scotland for a year so I feel your pain. No one at home, I live in the US, believed me when I told them it rained at least once everyday. They all thought I was exaggerating.

i have a similar problem
everytime I have my passport, road tax, license, insurance, ID with me, the road is all clear. Forget any one of these once in a blue moon and there are road blocks and check points all over the country!!! aaaarrgh!!!
