Anyone have any guidelines for age to start my son shooting? He's six but will be seven soon enough and has been paying his dues sitting in the blind or walking through the woods for more than a year - anyone have suggestions when's a good time to get him handling a real (but of course unloaded) firearm and after that, when to put the bolt in and live ammunition and let him try some paper targets?

Thanks for the feedback.

I would like to hunt small game with the hornet rather than a regular .22, but I don't know if the hornet would be too powerful.

Can this be done and how will it affect performance? I'm wondering what will happen if you were to saw off a 24" rifled barrel say down to 18.5" (within legal limits). I can see where there would be no problems with cylindrical barrels since the is no rifling to worry about. In this case I'm not sure if taking of a few inches will mess up the whole barrel or not.

I have been hunting ever sense i was 14 years old and i love it, every november im excited for deer hunting. In my local paper during hunting there are all these people who just sit there and say that hunting is horrible. I do know that some people get killed but that doesnt happen to every body, i have never had a shot go over my head or anything. Another thing is that if we all stoped hunting those same people that were complaning about how immoral it is to hunt would be complaning about how many deer there are, and they would be telling people to do something about it, and guess what the simple solution is hunting. I would really like to hear both sides if i could.

I have a 12 guage Remington 870 Express Magnum. It came with a 28" barrel I can shoot slug fairly well with it. Smooth bore open sights. I can hit a 6" circle at 100 yds.

I recently bought a 18" police barrel for self defense. I like to keep that barrel on my gun.

I heard (online) that not all the powder in shot guns will ignite by the time the slug leaves a short barrel. That a longer barrel uses all powder. The same site also said a longer barrel slows the slug down because of extra friction. (according to them you can't win for losing)

Both of these are smooth bore open sights. I do like the vent rib on the longer barrel. I also like the shorter barrel because itis easier to move around.

With me being able to hit the circle at 100 yds I am not interested in buying a slug barrel.

Are longer barrels better in this case? Do they steady the slug better? Can I use sabots in either barrel?
What would you do with this gun?

I hunt 450 acres in SW PA and I'm seeing less and less "good" bucks. Sat on stand yesterday for 9 hrs in the rain and saw 17 deer---> 6 bucks, 11 doe. Only 1 was a "shooter". This is several years in a row that I've seen multitudes of small bucks and very few bigger bucks.

Just looking for a little input from fellow hunters.

My husband is going hunting next weekend, which also happens to be his birthday. I was going to put together like a little care package for him of snacks and some other little things, didn't know if there might be anything to add? So far I have a few of his favorite snacks, like beef sticks and Snickers and I was going to add some handwarmers. Anything else that might be helpful while hunting? Thanks!

Yesterday afternoon I was meat hunting. Two legal deer walked up about 100 yds away. I picked one and shot at it. I was a little shaky I had to aim a long time. I was certain I could do it.

Both deer turned and ran away. One raising it's tail the other the one I shot at ran with it's tail held low. Does that sound like it was hit? I went to the area where it was standing and could not find any blood. I searched the entire area until dark without finding anything. No blood no deer nothing.

How long will it keep if I killed it. It got down to about 30 here last night. It is sunny today the high will be in the upper 50's.

This is just a basic question but I really am going to need one soon. Also, is there a website that I can view to purchase a gun online legally? And do permits cost anything?? How long do they last and what are the requirements behind them? Lastly, What are the requirements for owning a concealed weapon??

I recieved a Browning Blegium semi-auto 12 gauge shotgun for Christmas last year. My only problem is that it has a stabalizer on the end to reduce the kick. When I shoot it the noise comes back to me so it doesn't "kick" as hard so it is easier to be accurate with. I want a new barrel for it that is not rifled but smooth rather. Is there anywhere I can find one online. It was made in the early 1950's.
