Good for you, now go back and kill a couple of dozen more. As a kid we would hike out to the dump and pick them off with our daisy bb guns and get paid a nickle a piece for them from the guy that ran the dump. Rats are vermin, plain and simple. The more you kill the better. Just don't handle them unless you have to, they are full of fleas and ticks.

I read an article a few minutes ago about Rat Island, Alaska, they are going to start in Oct killing all the rats on the island, they are not native to Alaska and are killing all the nesting birds or have killed them. So I believe you won't get any negative comments from anybody except some animal rights activist who has nothing else to bitcch about and besides they make an excellent target for practicing the rats that is.......

My thoughts are, in this order:
1. Thank you.
2. You wanna hang out over here?
We're having a mouse problem right now, and just last night we managed to trap three in a few hours. You killing one won't make an impact on the population much, but it's a good start. In Europe, instead of shooting clay pigeons for fun, people would shoot pigeons that had been trapped. I think shooting one potentially disease carrying rat pales in comparison.

Rats are the most prolific spreaders of disease in recorded history. DON'T feel remorse about exterminating them. You are doing a favor to yourself and others by doing so. In the days before such practices became politically incorrect, city dumps used to allow folks to come in on Sunday afternoons and shoot rats, to keep their population in check and reduce the risk of spreading disease. Like someone above said, they breed faster than you can kill them - a newborn rat can reproduce in 60 days, and they have large litters.

The .22 air rifle is fine for killing rats.
I tend to leave pretty much things alone that are not directly effecting my family, but I see no problem with going out and killing em.
They are pests, and if their population gets to high, they cause disease.

I don't have any problems killing rats, there are many billions left. The last one I saw in my yard lasted maybe two minutes after I heard it trying to dig through my siding. I regret that it took me so long to find my RWS 5G and the pellets!

That's great!! They make good practice for squirrel hunting. Don't stop at one or two shoot a few dozen. Just bury them so no other animal eats them and gets sick.

Rats breed faster than you can shoot them. As target practice, it probably isn't that bad a choice.
