As you have already been advised, Your Winchester Model 99 was manufactured by Winchester between 1902-1923.
The Rifle was ****** by closing the bolt, then fired simply by pushing the "thumb" button behind the cocking piece, rather than by a conventional trigger...These rifles were manufactured too early to be serialized.

The values you have been quoted are substantially lower than the actual current market values. A 100% "Original" Winchecter Model 99 in 70-80% condition is easily worth $1350 and Up. Finding or owning one of these rifles in 90% -100% condition are extremely rare and considered to be "museum" quality firearms. One such rifle was sold last year at a Sotheby's Auction House in New York, and went for $4,550.00

With the sale of USRA (Winchester) in 2006, you can just about bank on the fact that these rifles will increase in value to Collector's as long as it is 100% "original" condition and is untouched. As stated by the others this particular firearm is well worth investing in the cost of a professional written appraisal for actual value, for eventual sale or insurance purposes. You are extremely lucky to have such a rare rifle......

That's not the manufacture date, it's the date the patent was issued. Manufacture date would be later.

The Thumb Trigger single shot .22 was introduced for sale in 1904 and 77,584 were manufactured until it was discontinued in 1923.

Now, take a look at the first link. Don't get excited....this one is in remarkable ORIGINAL condition and it was marketed and sold by a well-known auctioneer. Note it was estimated at $400-$600 but sold for twice that. That does not always happen and like I said, this one is in remarkable original condition.

Lesser condition will reduce value by not just a litte bit but a lot. Or, if it's been refinished on either wood or metal, that's like cutting the value in half. Like antique furniture, collectors would rather see a worn and faded original finish than a shiny refinish job, no matter how professional.

If you send me some large, well lit closeup pics via email I will give you an honest estimation as to the proper condition description, from which you can establish a realistic value for either insurance or selling value. Whatever you do, don't do anything silly like "clean it up"...you may be destroying value.

Are you wanting value to sell it, or will you keep it? This is a special firearm, it needs to be preserved and stored properly if you aim to keep it. If you want to sell it, get it appraised and have a professional auction it for you to get the most for it.

I don't know about the value but hold onto it and pass i on to your kids etc. I doubt the part could be found but take it to a machinist or a smith and they could probably make the piece for you.
