I have been hunting ever sense i was 14 years old and i love it, every november im excited for deer hunting. In my local paper during hunting there are all these people who just sit there and say that hunting is horrible. I do know that some people get killed but that doesnt happen to every body, i have never had a shot go over my head or anything. Another thing is that if we all stoped hunting those same people that were complaning about how immoral it is to hunt would be complaning about how many deer there are, and they would be telling people to do something about it, and guess what the simple solution is hunting. I would really like to hear both sides if i could.

Another thing one of the anwsers said that i was excited to go out and kill the reason i get excited to hunt is because my dad was never a dad when i grew up so this helps me spend time with him. And yes i do feel bad when i kill an animal but i also feel worse when someone dies from hitting a deer. And another thing my modo is if you shoot it u eat it.

Hunting is a personal choice and along with most anything that is a personal choice there are people with very strong beliefs on both sides. One always feels the other's opinion or position is wrong and it is extremely hard to convince anyone differently.

I happen to have grown up in a family and area where hunting is a heritage and accepted past time. We have always hunted for meat, be it squirrel, rabbit, pheasant, deer, bear or whatever. None of my friends or family have been trophy hunters. We used every bit of meat and enjoyed serving some as a family game feed each year which was always a favorite of those that attended.

Hunting is also a very important method of population controls for some species that otherwise would over populate and serve to spread disease among the species and ultimately death of a great number which has been documented many times in history. Some of this death and disease is actually spread by people meaning well by feeding the animals.

I do not say all feeding is bad, for instance when snow depth makes it impossible for many species to find food it is important to help out Mother Nature as necessary. However feeding the pretty deer for instance draws the deer population to one spot allowing for disease to be spread much easier than if left to their own devises. This also often leads to deer crossing busy roadways and possibly causing deer vehicle accidents costing us all more for our insurance policies in places with heavy deer populations. Also possible injury or death to humans involved in the accidents as well.

Another drawback to not hunting would be the amount of damage a burgeoning deer population would do to trees, shrubs and planting as they search for food, leading to famine and I could only guess, but a humane shot by a hunter would probably be preferred to starving to death or dying from disease.

Again that is the opinion of a person proud to be a hunter and conservationist, the other side of the aisle may also have some compelling reasons as well.

I hope this helps in some way.

It's funny, because some people are so against hunting, yet they are not vegetarians and eat cows, pigs, chickens, etc. Just the thought of a free deer running in the woods getting shot, skinned and prepared, and eaten in their own home probably freaks them out. Some people stay away from foods without packaging. It's really all the same though. As long as you aren't beating up and stabbing the animal a few times before actually killing it so it can suffer, then i believe that's cruel. But one bullet very quickly in the head is a different story because he doesn't know what hit him. People that are against hunting have never really been hunting and don't know what happens. They just dont want to see "cute animals" getting hurt and killed. It's a hobby and part of someones lifestyle so dont let it get in your way.

I grew up in a very rural area. I understand hunting, although, its not something that I would do. I fully understand overpopulation and starvation throughout the winter. I've hit deers in my car, I wear leather, and I've had the wild animal kingdom come out of the woods at night and eat my trash, which is always fun to clean up - so, its not that I'm feeling bad for the animals.

The reasons I don't like hunting are the hunters themselves. While most are responsible, there were those who are not. I have encountered hunters who trespass on my land (clearly marked "no hunting, no trespassing"), park in my driveway while they were in the woods, and have their horrible barking beagles running around my house (that has got to be the worst sound at 5am). I've had gun shots in the side of my house, the casings were all over my back yard, I even had someone ask me if they could use my fridge for their beers. Unfortunately, there are always those who ruin it for the responsible hunters.

I am a hunter also and i can see why people would be against it and for it. My prey of choice is deer and every year there is a debate on "over kill" in my hometown. the biggest issue with that is that it throws of the eco-system. if there aren't enough deer for other predators to prey upon then there will be a decline in there population as well. through personal experience I've seen a starving wolf and they are will kill anything to survive ie. Children. but what has been done to balance it out is that some places limit the number of kills for that county, which is understandable.

These people think they can make a difference somehow.Putting two dogs together to most likely fight to the death is ate-up.So is animal cruelty / torture of any kind.No ethical hunter / person would condone such a thing. In the Bible,God gave man dominion over all the creatures of the earth.Permission to eat split-hooved animals.People all over the world in every country kill everything from ants,to spiders,to deer,to whales to eat.Always have.We as stewards (keepers)of all beasts, must only harvest according to wether or not that animal's population is sustainable.Hunting isn't allowed for threatened species.Man has been too slow in the past to change his habits, and has exterminated some species.Passenger pigeon--Do-do bird. Now in a very intelligent age,we must be careful not to overreact,--we have eliminated predators,or completely upset the balance of nature when we were ignorant in previous generations. This void must be filled by calculated harvests of some species.Where mountain lions are protected, deer populations are hurting, the cats are hungry, and some people have been attacked. We aren't keeping balance there, emotions are in control.C'mon people!Get your heads out of yer butts and let's all work together on something else.More species are in danger from global warming than hunters. If you got the time to try to ban hunting, then you should stop what you're doing and worry about saving all of us and your damn animals, too.

I'm not sure what people have against hunting. It is regulated so that over hunting doesn't happen. Most of the game hunted is meat you cannot buy at the store. And in many families it is something they do to spend time with their kids.
I am against people who go out a kill an animal just for it's "rack". I think that if you kill it, you should eat it. I personally do not hunt because I don't care for the taste of game meat. I won't kill anything I don't intend to eat and put to use.

It is how and where you are raised, I was raised and still live in Montana, I was taught to hunt for food, like you said " if you kill it- eat it". I think most of the people who are against hunting did not have to hunt for food.
Then on the other hand you have some dumb asses out there shooting animals for fun or sport, but most hunters and true sportsmen do not agree with that either.

Many of people are living the life of convenience by going to the market and having everything pre- packaged and ready to go. I believe most people should learn to hunt just in case we are in a catastrophic situation. It is easy to protest that hunting for the sheer sense of a trophy seems a little extreme and displays another sense of behavior that humans are competitive as well as violent.

There are not as many anti-hunting people as there are anti-gun people.
Anti-gunners actually try to court hunters in attempts to ban guns that are not "traditional" hunting guns (shotguns, bolt rifles, etc...). Vegans and PETA people are your only real anti-hunters with a small contingency of people who are only anti-hunting when it comes to trophy hunting (safari or canned hunts).
I am not trying to downplay anti-hunting efforts, but just want to put things in proper prospective. Hunters have it easy in contrast to the rest of us gun owners. What could also help is responsible, safe hunting. I know idiots who cannot shoot the side of a barn and it makes you wonder if they are also colorblind.

yea i know, these are the same people wearing fur coats and makeup that they test on cute little bunnies, some people think they know everything and are ignorant to situations that need to be addressed, i am an avid hunter and i think that it is very needed.
the same people who want to save the animals are usually the ones buying the cookie cutter houses that they had to chop down acres of woods and habitat to build a "cute house", and the more developments they build on what used to be farmland and woods, the more the encounters with wild animals will increase, then the animals will be killed as a threat, not for sport or for harvest.....these are the people who want to save the animals.... please!
hunters do save animals. from starvation and overpopulation.. whats more cruel.?.. being taken for food that will be eaten, or having a whole species starve because they were not controlled and ran out of food...?

get off the couch, turn off the t.v. and get your butt outside..
