My husband is going hunting next weekend, which also happens to be his birthday. I was going to put together like a little care package for him of snacks and some other little things, didn't know if there might be anything to add? So far I have a few of his favorite snacks, like beef sticks and Snickers and I was going to add some handwarmers. Anything else that might be helpful while hunting? Thanks!

With the numerous formulas of trail mixes on the market, a big bag containing his favorite munchies would always be a welcome addition, whether 'store-bought' or home mixed, and it can be shared with his huntin' mates, as well, and is a good source of quick energy, and good for the mid-hunt 'grumbles'.
I used to carry two bags with different mixes when I would go afield.

"payday" candy bars are great for hiking or hunting, they have peanuts for protein, salt to replcae what you sweat out, and carmel for sugar energy. I ALWAYS carry a couple in my fanny pack. I also carry a canteen cup under my canteen so I can heat water over a small fire, or "tommy cooker" type stove, so I can make tea or my favorite, hot cocoa. So include a coupel of tea bags, or hot choc pouches, make sure it's the "add water" kind. A bic disposable lighter, or "strike anywhere" matches are a nice addition. I usually make up some stew, or beef stroganoff etc the day before and freeze some in a zip lock bag. I put this into my fanny pack, still frozen and by the time lunch rolls around, it's defrosted and I can heat it up in my canteen cup for a really good hot meal. Beats the heck out of a cold sandwhich. I also make my own beef jerkey, but if he like jerkey, just pick up a small pack at the store. Last thing that goes in, is a "surprise" note from my wife that I get to open at meal time. Makes the day go a lot nicer. Just remember, weight is a premium, so don't over do it. Things like handwarmers etc should go in the emergency packet he carries in a pocket so that it is always with him in an emergency.
Hope this helped

You could make up little packages for each time he goes out to hunt. I like to go out in the morning and again in the evening so for me, it would be two packages per day. Anyway, fill each zip top bag with some snacks, hand warmers, etc. and stick in a little love note for his eyes only. Maybe make up some littel coupons good for somethings that he enjoys such as 15 minutes of back scratching, a 30 minute foot massage, or..........well let your imagination be your guide.

I love to carry hard candy. Jolly Ranchers, Life Savers, etc. They are good for a quick pick-me-up. Also, another item that can be a life saver is Chapstick. I never go out without it. Might sound corny but Ziplock bags are very useful, especially if rain is in the forecast. Hope this helps.

Added to what others have suggested, I would add gum and suckers. Soup in a thermous is always good in the afternoon, extra socks are always good and something I always forget, some kleenex for cleaning rifle lenses or glasses, and baggies to keep stuff waterproof. And spare batteries are good if he uses anything electronic like a GPS unit.

Anything you pack for him is going to be appreciated for the thought that you put into it. A few of my favorites that have been packed for me over the years are homemade bars of any kind that don't fall apart easily, fresh apples, Pears, jerky, pocket hand or foot warmers, the kind you just open and shake to activate, Carmex or lip balm of some kind and handi wipes to clean up after gutting a deer.

Best of all wish him luck "getting" his deer, never "catching it as many women say.

Nice crisp apples have always been a favorite of mine, and some of his favorite hard candies.
The apple can be carried in a jacket pocket as can the candies and are items that are easily eaten. And apple cores make great bait.

I always enjoy power bars, there light to carry and have a lot of nutrients. Also, beef jerky, and for me, a jar of peanut butter and a spoon.

A thermos full of hot chocolate or coffee, or his favorite drink. Hot chilli or soup is also welcome in the cold (dont forget a spoon). Any snacks he might like will work. Toilet paper is always nice to find in your pack if you forget your own!

I have found that chocolate covered coffee beans are nice to keep around. Also a book to read on a "all day sit" is helpful.
