This subject never ceases to amaze me with the number of uninformed answers that result! ! ! !
Purchase & possession of select-fire weapons, along with other restricted devices is LEGAL in MOST of the U.S., and only requires a BATFE background check and a one-time $200 transfer stamp (which is NOT a 'license'!) There are NO Federal 'licenses' or 'permits' required for possession of full-auto weapons, suppressors, short-barreled shotguns or rifles, or any other 'destructive devices'.
Your best bet for this purchase procedure would be to contact one of your local Class 3 dealers. The dealer will be completely informed on all laws & regulations, Federal & Virginia State, concerning the procedures, including all paperwork, one must follow in purchasing a select-fire weapon, and I am sure he would be more than happy to advise any serious buyer concerning such an aquisition.

The cheapest class 3 gun I know of is a Mac-10 sub machine gun they retail for around $4000 plus $200 tax stamp most people can afford that if they save their pennies and meet the requirements of the NFA 34 act.
I am ineligable due to age I am 18 and its only for 21 and up
If I would get a class 3 gun I would get a UZI or a Mac 10 due to it being more affordable compared to M16 series and H&K rifles.

Shooters Paradise in woodbridge had a Thompson Submachine Gun for sale about a year ago it was $15,000 with 2 30rd stick mags and one 100 rd drum.
You need a class three dealer and lots of money as no new manufacture full auto have been made since the late 1960's Then you have to pay the government another $200 for a Tax stamp to own the gun.

You need a Class III dealer. Here's a list below. Also, be prepared to pay a ridiculous amount for the permit, the firearm and the ammo. Are you independently wealthy? If not, you can't afford one....

You have to get a packet of forms from the BATF and get approval. It is almost NEVER approved for the average Joe Blow, because one of the requirements is that you have to get the OK of the chief law enforcement offier to co sign for you.He in turn is bearing co-responsibility for the acquisition.I know of NO chief of police/sheriff who is willing to stick his neck out for a common citizen.
