I am going out today to buy a Savage 111 bolt-action rifle today for deer hunting, and I'm not sure what I should get. I can either get a .270, 30-06, or a 7mm. I'm not sure which one is better.
Also, what is the difference between a short action and a long action? Is one better than the other?

In what rare instances have revolvers failed?
What are their weaknesses mechanically?

For clarification, my question is portraying to modern double action revolvers.

NOTE: I'm not looking for answers that have anything to do with ammunition capacity.

It is in very good condition. I only had the wood striped down and clear coated to bring it back to life. The rifle has been in my family for years. A vary nice piece to a collector. I need room in the cabinet for my new one so time to let it go.

A 57-year-old man shot himself in the toe, leg, testicle and abdomen when his rifle fell from a tree stand and discharged. The accident happened Wednesday in Green Lake County Wisconsin. ♂ ouch.

Was hunting with my best friend this morning and before he could get himself strapped in he mis-stepped in the stand and fell 19 feet straight to the ground.

He is alive this afternoon and happy to be here!!!!!

The problem (one of many) is that his rifle was pinned in between himself and his fall (lucky for him or he would be dead!) and was snapped clean in two from the force of the fall.

This was no cheasy rifle, but a .30-40 craig Model 1898 Carbine from the Springfield Armory. It is a classic, but because it was the rifle his mother hunted with he is very distraught over the damage.

It is a single piece stock that is broken clean in two right at the trigger guard. I want to get it fixed for him, but I don't know if aesthetically I should have it repaired or if I should replace the stock entirely???

I am at a loss with how to continue and would really appreciate any input you guys and gals have....

Thanks

I am looking at purchasing one of these rifles. Does anyone have experience with either? The Browning is $100 (I can get it for $900AUD) more but I like the look & feel of the CZ. I was a little put off by the plastic 'gold' trigger on the Browning. I'm not sure if I liked the feel of the T-Bolt straight pull action in reality. As far as I know the Browning is made in the US & the CZ is made in the Chech Republic. I am looking at using the rifle for plinking, some range work & hunting small feral game. Accuracy is a high priority of course. Can anybody shed some light on which one to go for? Thanks
