You would have to find a game dealer, and ask him if he would stock your rabbits, there is nothing to stop him selling the meat.

My local butcher will only stock wild rabbits outside of the breeding season, Im not sure if that is a common requirement for the rabbits he gets

People, he's in the UK. If you only know about the US then that doesn't apply.

Yes. I used to buy rabbits from a butcher in the Grainger Market in Newcastle upon Tyne and from another place in Bedford, Beds. that had been hunted by shotgun and snare. They were hanging up in their skin, just gutted. My friends farm in Northumberland, near Powburn, they let a guy come up from Ashington to deal with their rabbits (Sneppy) and I think he passes them on to a butcher down there. I'm not surprised there are limitations on this, but there are places that take them. Fewer and fewer people who have any idea what they taste like though. I used to hunt rabbits on the north west coast of Scotland but those I didn't eat myself I shared with the land owner and the hotel at the end of the road. It's funny how people who moan about the death of poor little bunnies love the pie and stew.

Funny that people think the USDA matters in the UK, the USDA doesn't even admit they have BSE here. Corrupt beyond belief or reason.

LOL! So many experts! And they know nothing about the UK!

Sorry.I had no way of knowing you live in the U.K..I would sincerely doubt it.It's probably illegal here in the U.S.) If any Butcher sells any other meats that are USDA Inspected, he would get into some major trouble with local health inspectors if wild rabbit was stored or displayed with "inspected" meats unless the have a special permit to process and sell wild game. Most LEGAL Rabbit is farm raised and subject to USDA Inspection and not "Wild" Since there is no inspection system in place to control standards for inspection of wild game, most Butchers I know would not take the chance of losing their business license, or take the risk of maybe infecting other inspected and health department approved meats they normally have all of the time, and sell to the general public legally. Venison seems to be the exception in some states though. It would never hurt to ask, but I think not.

*No Butcher in his right mind is going to buy from a Poacher..That idea is just ridiculous.....

I confess that i wouldn't have thought so, going how many diseases it might have, as it a wild animal , then again i have no knowledge of rabbit in butcher shops these days, once you would have seen them hung up along with all manner of birds and game, but now don't know.

I'm not sure about being able to sell them but, as for you selling the rabbits to them this should not be a problem as long as you could probably supply all the time and can prove that the rabbits are healthy. like if you gut before taking them you may want to leave the heart, lungs, liver and kidney still attached so they can see they are disease free

Im not sure if its legal but if you found a butcher willing to buy them I dont see why not. You should check your state laws regarding bag limits and regulatory laws .

I would think so; I mean, there's no law against hunting rabbits is there?

The U.S fish and wildlife service website should list the rules and regulations of rabbit hunting, so check it out

http://www.fws.gov/

Hope I helped some and good luck!

I think as long as it was not alive he could sell it. Pretty much everthing if not everything the butcher sells is already dead. A hunted rabbit would be no different.
