They are not dogs to compare, they are both bred for different hunting styles, the springer is a very dominant and docile dog that is bred for upland bird hunting( pheasant, quail, grouse) they are mostly used to flush and retrieve. the English springer is too small of a dog to retrieve birds out of water, The lab is a very hyper dog when they are pups so it makes it harder to train, Labs are mostly used just as a retriever for duck or goose hunting, but they can field hunt also
I just started hunting my brothers German short-hair pointer and he will do it all.

Both are terrific, however each is uniquely specialized for two distinct purposes.* Labs for waterfowl.* English Springer Spaniel for upland game > grouse, woodcock, pheasant, quail & doves.*

I believe Labs are better for retrieving the birds, (for example if you are shooting ducks over the water), and Spaniels are better for flushing birds like pheasants, quail, etc. from the bushes. Those are the purposes they are bred for.

for my area i does no longer get a Springer. they are surprising gundogs yet tend to be fairly loopy in the abode. in case you like Springers, have you ever seen a Cocker Spaniel? fairly some the very small breeds and fairly terriers may be snappy yet besides the incontrovertible fact that with the the desirable option practise and instilling in the canine that any people come first in the %. and the canine is backside of the pecking order, any breed may be a sturdy relatives puppy. we've had a Border Collie for purely approximately 11 years and because he's properly knowledgeable and has a suitable temperament, he's been the main wonderful puppy and adores my daughter. for my area i like Border Terriers - small yet adequate cheekiness to be thrilling.
