Firearms Industry Factory "Standardized" averages for handguns do in fact range from 3.5 to 11lbs depending on manufacturer and type of handgun

It varies not only by gun type (double actions will be a much heavier pull than single actions) but by the gun itself. I have shot identical model DA pistols brand new that vary greatly.

Always consider having a good gunsmith do a trigger job on any gun you purchase, it can make a world of difference. If you buy something with a horrible trigger like a Glock, there's not much that can be done however.

For revolvers could be 4-10 lbs. For semi autos, it can range from 5-15. The H&K VP-70Z , double action only 9mm, had an extremely heavy trigger pull at about 15-16 lbs.

3.5-9 lbs. The high end of that is double action revolvers and police-lawyer triggers. The low end, in the 3.5-5 pound range is more normal.

As Chris put it so well... depends.

Some police department issue models require a "heavy" trigger... upwards of 7lbs.

My 1911's all have roughly 3.5 - 4 lbTriggers from the factory.
Gi Models are heavier
