I just purchased a new 30-30 Marlin lever action rifle. I have heard that if you use bullits with a point on the end it could set off the bullit in front of it in the tube magizine. Will shells with a slightly blunted tip work, or do you have to buy lever specific ammo?

I am looking for a recommendation on a good book that teaches basic knot tying that would be used on a high ropes course (I am training to facilitate groups). I am more of a visual hands on learner and have learned the basics from some people (e.g. figure 8 knots, bowland, etc) but would like to have something to refer to should I forget. Thanks.

I am looking for some intelligent advise from others on getting my 8 year old son involved in pistol shooting. I am an experience shooter and gun owner, but have not exposed my children to the sport very much. They have been exposed to the world of firearms though, and have been present when guns were out of the safe for cleaning, etc. My son (older than his siblings by many years) has been spoken to about not touching a gun unless I am with him, keep your finger off the trigger, etc. He and I have even been in a few gun shops, and found a pistol that fit his hands pretty well. I'm just not sure how to go about beginning the instruction process. When I taught my wife to shoot, I gave her a bit of verbal instruction on what to expect, then gave her a gun to start shooting. I would be interrested in anyone's advise on instructing a child in the sport of shooting. I would also be interrested in anyone's opinions, or personal experience with this. Thanks!

I know that you can estimate the water temps. by taking 5 nightly lows and averaging it out but, What happens when you have this unusual cold front ? How much will it affect the water temps.? Does it hold true for rivers as in lakes? Any help would be appreciated.

A bullet, or a friking arrow.

By friend said arrow, and we have been arguing about an hour over this.

I said arrows do more damage to you, but he disagrees.

We've got a raccon problem and my stepfather is using a crappy pellet gun to suppodedly scare them away. Well it's not working and i'm thinking about buying a 22 rifle. I don't have any felonies and i'm 26 years old so there shouldn't be a problem for to purchase a rifle. I'm just curious if I have to wait to get the gun or if I can purchase the rilfe and get it the same day I purchased it.

Ok, the other day at the range, the safety officer comes up to me and asks me,
" Ok, we know that 7.62x61 is also known as 30-06, and that 7.62x51 is also known as .308, 7.62x25 is often called Tokarev ammo, what is another name for the 7.62x39 ammo?"

I told him I've always heard it called 7.62x39 and didn't know if had another name, Some folks call 7.62x54r Russian 30 cal, but I've never heard of 7.62x39 being called anything other than that.

How about ya'll? Heard anything different from what i have?
