compared to other guns how is it?

Rather than deal with amateur opinions, I have found that the professionals, both commercial and independent, have given a slight edge to the H-K, from tests run by evaluators from such sources as Guns & Ammo, American Handgunner, and Gun Tests magazines.
In such tests, the H-K USP models had fewer malfunctions and NO (0) failures when tested against, not only the Sig-Sauer, but Beretta, Springfield, and S&W models, as well.
The H-K mk.23 SOCOM is even better than the USP's, as proven by use by the Navy SEALS and other Special Forces units.

I've run nearly 5,000 rounds through my H-K USP .45ACP, including Hydra-Shok, Cor-Bon, and several equivilent custom handloads, with 0 stoppages EVER, and it's tolerances haven't measureably changed since I first aquired it.
The only negative factors I've dealt with carrying the USP, inherrent in the SOCOM, as well, is it's larger size, but I'm a larger guy and LIKE the more impressive size, and the limited availability of carry systems, but I carry concealed in my own unorthodox manner, anyway.

Grizzly said most of it already - all I have to add is an article I read saying how H&K and Colt were the two top contenders when SF, SEALS, Etc wanted a new pistol. They both produced their best (HK being the the SOCOM), and after thousands of rounds fired with no cleaning, sand being in the actions, saltwater tests......all the torture available on this planet - the H&K SOCOM won out over the Colt. So with that said, I would call it dependable.

Extremely dependable the Rolls Royce of pistols, I wouldn't call a Sig Sauer P220 any less dependable both these pistols are the very best available. Both will serve you well for many years.

On pure dependability the MK23 is dependable. I think for the same amount of money you could get a nicer more dependable custom gun but the MK23 is dependable. I will never recommend a MK23 for any purpose but it is dependable.

Is it the most dependable? It is part of the debate and reasonable people will disagree.

H&K is like Colt; you are paying for their expertise and wisdom and quality. Sort of like when I say there is no such thing as a bad AK; the bugs have been ironed out in testing and what you hold in your hand is going to work no matter what.

All H&K firearms are first rate in quality, but too pricey. There are many other good guns of nearly the same quality which sells for slightly over half the cost of an H&K.

Buy it, you'll like it. It is as dependable as anything available.
