The `best thing to do is to talk to people who fish the water you want to fish regularly. Every body of water is different. There are a whole world of clues and general rules of thumb about any particular fishes behavior, but in the end, if someone else is catching them in the lake you fish, it's best to copy them to get started. Once you get a feel for what's biting where and when, then you can experiment with other areas and techniques.

If we knew there were fish already there waiting for the hook, fishing wouldn't be much fun. Best way to know if there are fish in the water is to keep your eyes open and see if anyone else is catching fish.

walleyes will be on the cold side of the lake. Pikes are the ones that are chilling out on the warm side.

you could try polarized sun glasses they help you to see more under the water on sunny days or if you have a small boat buy a fish finder that will show you where the fish are, what size they are and how many in the area hope this helps

if the lakes quite clear you may want to try buyin a pair of polorised sunglasses as thes break the glare own and allow you to see whats lurking infact i often use them for trout so i assume it would work for pike

If you fish a certain place every day for a year and don't connect!!! Probably your first clue the lake is dead
