I want to go camping this weekend Sept 22/07 at Harrison Hotsprings in BC, by some lake and free hotsprings for relaxation. Do I have to concern myself with the presence of bears at this time of the year??? I know not to have food with us at the actual site. We plan on camping near some lake that is near these free springs. Any idea's my outdoor adventurer friends?

Is a shotgun better for home self-defense than a handgun?

Also, what is a reliable and effective type/brand of shotgun for a beginner? And in what price range do good shotguns and ammunition run?

If you believe a handgun to be a better choice would you please explain why?

Thank you.

Im in the market for buying my first rifle. I'm thinking of a Marlin 60SN .22 Semi Automatic or a similar one with a detachable magazine. Not sure the model. Does anyone have any experience with these weapons?

Is hunting ok to you, or not?

Is killing another animal for fun (not hunting in terms of food), the right thing?

Or is it a good thing? Gives you a hobby and bonding time?

What are your opinions on hunting?

Explain why you are for or against hunting.

I just want to hear users opinions on this.

Thanks.

All fishermen/women have that story about the one that got away. What was yours & how much do you think it weighed?

For me,it was a large mouth bass weighing somewhere between 9-12 lbs. that I had been going after for over a month. Then, the moment happened. He hit my line,I jerked to hook him & the fight ensued.I just knew it was him.I was ecstatic! (maybe too much so which is probably why I lost him) About halfway in,he comes up out of the water, (which was a beautiful sight) wiggled pretty, (as a taunt) spit my bait out, (I could've sworn he smiled as he looked at me) & plunged back into the water.I stood there stunned, (that moment we've all felt) then a bit angry, (a lot angry actually lol) at myself for losing him.Yet,I had to smile to myself too cause that one that got away had outfished me! lol

What is your fish story? I'd love to hear it!

I was shooting my 1911 yesterday and the front sight seemed to shake loose and then fell out. How can I line it back up and affix it so it won't come lose again?

How do they attach them at the factory?

I love camping, especially in the fall. But it's going to be unusually chilly next weekend so I was thinking of investing in one.

How easy is it to buy a rifle in Australia? What are the requirements to own one? What is the hunting like? I am just curious now but I have always been fascinated by the land down under and would love to travel there, maybe move there if I could talk my wife into it. Hunting is one of my hobbies. I live in the central U.S. now and I hunt deer, rabbits, squirrel.

Im a 17 year old guy in Australia, love hunting, been shooting most of my life, joining the Army next year. So far ive made do with my .22 but im starting to need something bigger, I need something that can deliver enough punch 2 bring down something like a pig or a wild dog out at about 600 - 800 metres away.
Im aiming to spend between $600 - $1200.
I wanted to find out from someone experienced;
-what would be the best cartridge to use, thinking maybe .308 or .223 (how much do these generally cost, and how well do they perform)
- what rifle should I be looking for? ive heard good things about the remington 700, just wondering what peoples thoughts about that are, and how much its going to cost me.
- im also looking to get a synthetic tactical stock fitted for my gun, thinking about a "wild dog" tactical stock, just wondering if there are any other good ones out there, and if anyone knows whether i can buy the rifle prefitted with the stock i want, or will i have to add it later?

If you want accuracy, and reliability?

It will be used for target practice, and i want it to last and not have problems with feeding.....

should i just go with what i like, because i am in love with the M&P and its looks....The XD because of its reliabilty...and the Px4 because of looks...

im leaning towards M&P anyone got some opinions?
