How easy is it to buy a rifle in Australia? What are the requirements to own one? What is the hunting like? I am just curious now but I have always been fascinated by the land down under and would love to travel there, maybe move there if I could talk my wife into it. Hunting is one of my hobbies. I live in the central U.S. now and I hunt deer, rabbits, squirrel.

I live in Australia.

And yes you can't own semi-auto guns (only pistols) but you need a special licence.

Once you have a license you have to send a PTA away which takes 30 days to get then you can buy a gun.

Yes you can hunt here. Vermin hunting is big here. There is also deer hunting here in most staes mostly nsw, and vic.

Hope this helped.

If not there are a few aussie gun forums go and check them out the should be very helpful.

Not good.

Gun laws are strict, no repeating firearms or automatic handguns. Hunting is generally frowned upon although some places, particularly in the Northern Deserts/Tropics pig/fox/rabbit hunting and Kangaroo culling are considered okay and good sport...

Aussie gun laws are horrible, the people have been disarmed and crime in all catagories is up, rapes, murder, robberies, etc; it is probably not safe to even visit australia anymore. Forget hunting; you would wind up being hunted by the criminals who don't pay attention to the law anyway.
