5 basic lures in my box are the topwater frog,4"soft plastic worm, single bladed 1/8oz spinner bait,4" twin tailed skirted grub and the floating rapala!
These to me are basic baits used almost every time out fishing but they change up as soon as later fall comes to play! Each season will have its own basic use baits!

Depends on your quarry, mine would be:
1.) Spinner (Mepps, Panther Martin, etc.)
2.) Crank bait (Bomber, Poe's, Norman, etc.)
3.) Jig and Plastic ( Twister, Power Bait, etc.)
4.) Spoons (Daredevils, Johnson silver minnow, etc.)
5.) Stick/ Minnow baits (Rapala, Reef Runner, Rattlin' Rogue, etc.)
Most of these are pretty much for freshwater use, which is what I do.

no matter where u go or what species you're after every angler needs: dare devils, rapala medium divers, spinner/buzz baits, soft plastics, and jig baits. the classic red/white dare devil is the first lure of choice for most anglers. the rapala works for most any fish, from perch to muskie. spinnerbaits produce. period. soft plastics are great for several species, try pumpkin color. jig baits kinda go a few ways, the mister twister and foxee jig being my favorites. try with a spinner blade for added action

2) Plugs; balsa and plastic (jerk baits, crank baits, surface baits)
3) Spoons or wobblers, including flashers (Williams, Daredevil, Mooselook, etc)
4) Spinners, including spinner-baits (Mepps, Rooster Tail, etc.)
5) Soft plastics, and the new non-plastic like Gulp (Worms, grubs, tubes, minnows, leeches, etc.)
6) Jigs
