I have hunted rabbits and squirrels with both 410 and 20 ga. The 410 is enough gun for both of them but the 20 is not too much. I don't know about the doves. The 410 will have a smaller pattern so you will have more of a challenge. I once made a 60-80 yard, through the trees shot on a running squirrel with a 410 and dropped it right out of the tree. When I arrived at the scene of the crime it needed a 22 shot to finish the job but I really enjoy hunting with that 410.

After some cross bow hunting this weekend I got bored and used the .410 on squirrels.

You really got to get close. I was using 6 shot and was not happy with the results. Will go back to 20 or 12 in the future.

When the leaves fall and you can get a clear shot I would recommend the .22 though.

Happy Hunting

i have all 3, i realy like the 410 for rabbits and squirrels, but like the 20 ga better for doves due the to more dense shot collum, though i have dove hunted with the 410 the shells for the 410 are almost twice as expensive as the 20

Definitely go with the 20 gauge. .410 is too small for most things other than plinking. You will be much happier in the long run with the 20 guage.

.22 is definitely a good cartridge for squirrel...And for just target shooting. They are a blast to plink with...

Although I have used both 410 and 20 gauge with great success, I'd recomend the 20 gauge for two main reasons. First, cost. 410 shells being of limited use anymore, the cost is higher than that of the more popular 20 gauge. Secondly, the 20 gauge being larger, holds more shot per shell, making hits more probable and clean kills more consistant.

20 over 22
because the 20 gauge shotshells are about 1/2 the price of the 410 shotshells

.410 is hard to hit anything with, but the 20 gauge is perfect. it shoots less BB's than a 12 gauge like i use, and it works great, is what my uncle said. whereas the .22, it is cheap to shoot, but it takes a lot more practice to hit something with with a .22
i like the 20 gauge.

I also agree that the 20/.22 is the way to go

410 is a specialist's guage, not for beginners and too restrictive if you don't have other alternatives. A 20 bore is a better overall choice, unless you already have too many in that guage.

Go with the 2o gauge/.22LR.

In my opinion, the .410 is worthless for hunting, other than for killing snakes.
