All fishermen/women have that story about the one that got away. What was yours & how much do you think it weighed?
For me,it was a large mouth bass weighing somewhere between 9-12 lbs. that I had been going after for over a month. Then, the moment happened. He hit my line,I jerked to hook him & the fight ensued.I just knew it was him.I was ecstatic! (maybe too much so which is probably why I lost him) About halfway in,he comes up out of the water, (which was a beautiful sight) wiggled pretty, (as a taunt) spit my bait out, (I could've sworn he smiled as he looked at me) & plunged back into the water.I stood there stunned, (that moment we've all felt) then a bit angry, (a lot angry actually lol) at myself for losing him.Yet,I had to smile to myself too cause that one that got away had outfished me! lol
What is your fish story? I'd love to hear it!

I was bass fishing at MacKenzie Reservoir near Silverton, TX which is a lake famous for it's big stripers. I was casting a Tennessee Shad colored Bagley's Balsa Diving Kill'r B-1 into small cove off the main lake when as I started to retrieve my lure in the clear water all I saw was a large, wide, black stripe about 3 feet long and close to a foot wide come up fast at my lure and hit it with such force that the lure broke right behind where the diving lip is glued to the body. All I got back was the lip with two painted on eyes and a small portion of the head of my $8 lure. I do recall cursing and swearing I would never use another balsa bait after that incident. I since replaced the lure with an identical one and have had many good catches with it. I only wish I had caught that big brute. It would have been the largest I had ever caught and a lake record to boot.
Life goes on!

I was using a plastic lizard bass bait and 10lb test line when I believe a snapping turtle grabbed it. I could hardly even reel. 5 seconds later, I had only my sinker still attached to my line. I just looked into the water about 3ft from where I was standing to see what what it was. I didn't see anything. But my bait just sank right to the bottom and snapped, it didn't move like a fish at all.

I sadly lost a 45-50 inch Muskie down on Cave Run Lake in Kentucky!!!!!! on a guided fishing trip the day before i caught and released a 30 incher. later on i was fishgin a big ol' jerbait in some sunken timber and i caught him! he wrapped the line around a tree and the lure poped right out of his mouth!! i was really disappointed but i was the only person out of 5 adults to catch a fish those 2 days!!!!!!

a 30 inch 10 lb rainbow trout 10 yrs ago...I was using 6 lb test monofilament and fought him for 10 mins, only to have him break my line at the shore..he was so tired he swam in the shallow water for about 5 mins and I got to see him, he was a brute and a hog. The post script on this was that after seeing my monofilament streatched was that afternoon I went and had all 4 of my reels done in Spiderwire. I have lost fish since then but none has broken my line lol

Far to many to count, but this year on opening day of walleye season I caught a 9 pounder and about an hour later I lost a 12+ pounder while trying to get him in the net, that was painful. Oh well I still have one of his twins mounted anyway.

A yellowfin tuna, probably around 60 pounds, down at Alijos Rocks on a 9-day trip back around 1989. They were picky that day, eating 2 inch anchovies on nothing heavier than 30 pound line and a #4 hook, and even then you might get one bite every hour or two. Most of the tuna were 40 pounders, with some bigger ones mixed in.
I fought this fish for probably 45 minutes, and it was finally making its circles as I worked it up towards the gaff, and on its last time around a few inches under the surface, the hook just popped out. It shook its head, righted itself, and swam off.
"It's s### when that happens," said the skipper. "Get another one."
So I tied on a new hook, cast out again, and immediately hooked up, and this time I landed it, 65 pounds, my best of the trip.
(The best way to get over losing a fish is to catch another.)

I was down at the coast (Port Arthur Tx.) and catching sandsharks left ad right (very tasty). Usually you cath them between 20-30 lbs. All of the sudden something hit my line that damn near drug me out to sea! I fought it for like 30 minutes and walked it up to the shallow water. then i saw it. The shark had to be ovewr 5 feet long and had to weigh anywhere from 75 to 90 lbs.!!! i was scared to grab it and pull it out of the water, so i tried to pull it up on the beach! thats when it snapped my 60 lb. test line and was never to be seen again.

A 10-pound weakfish, sea trout, at Zach's Bay next to the Jones Beach Theater. I had the weakfish up against the cement wall, but my arms were too short to reached and grab it by the gills, so I tried to hoist it over. The line snapped. Next day, I brought a huge fishing net.

Well, probably the biggest was close to a 15-20 pound carp. I never saw him, but he bent my hook straight. It fought like a carp/catfish, but it was in 1-2 foot water, so I'm sure it was a carp. I never saw him, but I knew he was massive.
I also lost a decent gar this past month. I never hooked one before but I pulled him out of the water and he fell off.
