As a hunter you would like to think I support hunting but as a female hunter I definitely go back and forth. I have been hunting for about 5 years and I've only ever killed a squirrel and a coon. I usually only hunt deer but on a rare occasion I go out for other game. I've considered quiting since I have no luck with deer but on the other hand to me it's a way to get close to nature. I have a very hard time understanding hunting with a gun. Anymore it seems it's about the chase and it's a running kill which to me defeats the whole purpose unless you do plan on stocking your fridge for the winter because you live in the middle of nowhere with a poor job. I am going to try archery hunting this year simply because it's completely man vs. nature you have to get a deer practically within spitting rage to shoot it without smelling you, hearing you, or seeing you, so it's very much a challenge and it is a passion not a hobby but to me it's about nature and going back to the indians in a way. Is it right well it depends on the person, if no one hunts especially deer then you would see a lot of needless deaths on the road whereas if you hunt them, generally they get eaten.
In my opinion if you are hunting for fun, it's wrong. If you are hunting to bond with someone and in a way becomes a passion, not so much a hobby, AND YOU EAT THE MEAT, then it's fine.
I get so aggravated with people who don't follow the rules it's not about how many deer you get or the trophy of what you got, it's all about nature and being challenged by whatever game you are after a lot of hunters seem to forget that.

Hunting is definitely fine in my book.
I have never killed an animal for fun. In fact, this weekend I took several squirrels. My problem is that I have seen a lot of death in my time and cleaning the squirrels seems to get tougher as the years go by. Not physically, but mentally.
For me, to cease to hunt is to cease breathing but I would never consider it just "fun".
Based on the way that you phrased the question I can conclude that you will probably never understand what it means to open your eyes to a brisk, dusky morning, cold and shaking with excitement that has nothing to do with the weather.
I feel sorry for those who will never grasp the depth of feeling that hunting provides.
Hunting in and of itself is a very solitary thing. The only other player in the game is the "animal", so bonding is not really a part of the actual hunt.
I know that doesn't apply to a teaching scenario (father/son etc.) or when you get back to the hooch. But hell, you can bond over tea and crumpets just as well as you do when hunting.
I have done several things in life just because I was against them in the first place. I recommend you do the same thing. Find yourself someone who knows how and hit the sticks. It may surprise you.

I'm for hunting. It keeps animals from overpopulating, starving during winter, and from coming into cities looking for food..."Bambi" would be ok, but bears in the city..not good. Yes, hunting also gives someone a hobby and a bonding time with friends and/or family. Hunting just to have fun would be ok to me for a nuisance animal (or something that is not doing good). Hogs, coyotes, bobcats, snakes, ect. are all ok to me to shoot for fun. When it comes to deer though...it should be fun, yes, to go hunting, but you should use the deer for food at least and not just to brag about the antlers it had. (although that IS part of the fun!) I enjoy making buckskin from the deerhides that many hunters just throw out with the guts. It's amazing to me what Mother Nature gives us to use for everyday use (deer=meat+skin+bones) meat to eat, skin for clothing, shelter, accessories, glue, and bones for tools...if you want to go that far. So yes, I enjoy hunting with friends and family and have a lot of fun. Just saddens me when I see a deer on the side of the backroads where someone took the head, backstraps, and maybe a hindquarter and left the rest as waste.

Hunting for me is ok, only if it is within a certain limit and you don't make some endangered speicies extinct. Hunting gives you a good hobby as well as bonding time with fauna, flora etc. If certain speicies becomes nuisance to local people living near forests, then instead of capurting and euthanizing them , it is better to hunt them. For eg. in the Gir forests of India(the last remaining habitat of the asciatic lion), the lions eat livestock of local villagers. But that means that they are the last surviving ones and you cannot hunt them.

hunting is fun. i've been hunting for nearly 20 years now. it's a good time with the guys out bird hunting or peaceful and serene bein up 20 feet in a tree all by yourself waitin for deer. it's all about the hunter. i hunt for food AND fun. we need more people to understand that not all us hunters are blood thirsty killers. i hunt to put food on the table for my 4 kids. also as a way to keep our animal populations in check. i've never killed an animal just to shoot something.

Hunting has a long History from its beginning to present.* Most Hunters eat what they harvest today.* Very few Trophy Hunt and not utilize the meat, either giving it away or eating it themselves.Wildlife is a renewable resource and should be harvested by those who enjoy Hunting.* No Hunter has to apologize to anyone at anytime at any place for participating in a Sport enjoyed and cherished my millions of Sportsman, Hunters, Shooters, Outdoorsman, Target Shooters, Conservationists or anyone who desires to appreciate the enjoyment thereof.*There is never a need to justify or argue for or against it.* You either do or don't Hunt.* " Think for yourselves and let others enjoy the privilege to do so too."

I don't believe there is a "fun"aspect to hunting.
People go to the woods and waters for a outdoor experience, but not the same way one goes to Disney World...
The merits of hunting are a controlled and humane way to control animal populations.
Vs. the merits of controlling deer with cars and trucks on the interstate.
Controlling deer with contraceptives does not seem a viable option, are you going to go out in the woods to hand out birth control?

This is not a question of "Merits" but a question of individual opinions and individual rights to choose. Certainly you don't expect to get anything but pro-hunting responses in a "Hunting" catagory do you?
The majority of us here take our paid privilage to hunt as well as our right to own firearms seriously....to define hunting as "fun" is a very biased word in and of itself. "Fun" is hardly a definative word to define the sport of "Hunting". You will not get a "true" accounting of opinions, on this subject as you worded it,and it leaves nothing but an invitation for extreme feelings and conflict..Nothing useful or worthwhile will result.........
As DCA worded it perfectly..You either hunt or you don't.
