You know, the shot heard round the world? The Giants win the penant! The Giants win the penant! What's the story behind it?

I was watching The Best Damn Sports Show's Top 50 Baseball moments and they showed Hank Aaron hitting his 715th hr. At that moment I thought I caught a glimse of the opposing team and thought it might have been Detroit but unless it was during the world series that wouldn't have made sense.

David Wright is starting at 3B over Miguel Cabrera. Here are the stats...

Cabrera - 50 R 17 HR 59 RBI .32l AVG 0 SB
Wright - 47 R 15 HR 49 RBI .287 AVG 18 SB

The only thing Wright has over Cabrera is stolen bases. What a joke. Wright is even on a better team so he should have more runs and rbi's. He just happens to start cause he's on a New York team and the fans don't look at stats, they just vote for who they like. It's a shame that the better player will be sitting on the bench.

After watching David Wells get ejected way early, today i think umpires should be fined for doing stuff like this. It would be one thing if it was a coach, but he ejected the starting pitcher!

The umpires job is to make correct calls and keep players in the game, and i feel that umpires are using their power to eject players, for more personal reasons (like, ha i was right)

Do you agree that umpires should be fined for ejecting a player when not necessary?

I don't understand why fans can only vote for position players and not pitchers. Is it because there tends to be more pitchers on a team than position players (when you count starting rotation and bullpen), and doing so would make the ballot insanely long?

I always wondered why if a ball is popped foul it can be called an out. But if a batter foul tips into the catcher's glove on a count with less than two strikes, why isn't that an out.

I know a batter must get three strikes but the batter has in effect , "fouled off a pitch", so why wouldn't it be an out since the catcher made the catch?

I love the game of baseball, and I've been playing it since I was five years old. I'm entering my senior year this year, and Ive been a two year varsity starter in the outfield. It was only after this year my junior year, that Ive started to really find a true love for the game of baseball. I hope to someday make it to the mlb, although i know the odds.

I have always been good in my eyes, but I'm entering my senior year and have not even been sniffed by any scouts. Last year I batted in the 300s for half the year and didnt make in error in right field. The problem that I have is my size, I am 5 11 and weigh about 150 pounds and am kinda scrony. So this summer and beyond I have dedicated myself to the game of baseball. I want to be the leader of the team next year and am practicing every aspect of the game everyday, Im willing to do whatever it takes. So im asking do you think all the hard work will pay off or is it all for nothing.

If pitchers give him a strike, he will drive it out of the ballpark. He balls in the dirt for solid doubles and sometimes Homeruns. My question: do you think Vlad can win the homerun derby because he will be getting pitches to hit?

I personally don't like the DH rule, but if there ever was a time to use it, it would be the All-Star game. This is where we see the best pitchers against the best hitters. I really don't care to watch an AL pitcher who hasn't hit all year take 3 lame swings at the ball. I know they are usually pinch-hit for, but not always. For example, a big 1st or 2nd inning, they would leave the starter in so that he wouldn't just be pitching one inning.

To me it looked a bit questionable last night with Mr. Thome. In the first game of the double header he was crowding the plate and got hit. He was not happy at all. In the second game he had a real hard time holding on to the bat. Could it be that he was going for a payback? Gee, first pitch he throws the bat all the way back to the backstop. Second pitch it may have looked a little less deliberate if he had just turned and swung at the catchers head. WhiteSox becoming a cheap and classless team.
