Jeter has made 13 errors in 378 chances at short, for a .966 fielding percentage. That currently puts him 19th among shortstops in the major leagues:

Alex has 5 errors in 278 chances, for a .977 percentage that has him tied for fifth-best among third basemen:

The page links I've given can be used to check on players at all positions. I'd suggest, however, that you check out the last category - ZR for zone rating - to really evaluate the abilities of fielders. It's a measure used by Stats Inc. to show how many balls players get to as compared to an "average" fielder. Not surprisingly, Vizquel and Reyes are tops at short. It's better in most cases to have a guy who might make a few errors, but who has an outstanding zone rating, because they're at least getting to far more balls than some other fielders.

His fielding percentage is .966, if that helps. He also has 13 errors on the year.

A-Rod has a fielding percentage of .977, with 5 errors.
