David Wright is starting at 3B over Miguel Cabrera. Here are the stats...
Cabrera - 50 R 17 HR 59 RBI .32l AVG 0 SB
Wright - 47 R 15 HR 49 RBI .287 AVG 18 SB
The only thing Wright has over Cabrera is stolen bases. What a joke. Wright is even on a better team so he should have more runs and rbi's. He just happens to start cause he's on a New York team and the fans don't look at stats, they just vote for who they like. It's a shame that the better player will be sitting on the bench.

the players in the all-star game are chosen by the fans, who vote for who they want to see play. not on who is the best in that position. and becasue the mets are a better team they have more fans. BUT you gotta hand it to David Wright. he is an excellent fielder who makes some outstanding plays. he robs so many players of base hits with the arm and diving range he has. i am a Phillies fan and hate the mets with a passion, but i voted for David Wright becasue i believe he is a good player. all those stats are really close Cabrera only leads wright in homers by 2 and Miguel is a power hitter. he isn't doing as well as he did last year he put on a few pounds.

Take voting out of the fans hands....ok, I understand you might have spent to much time in the sun and that is really ok.
As for the question, manny times it is what you did the year before that gets everyone attention this year. If the game was held at the end of the year it would be better. Ya there is some stuff about who wins gets home field....baseball home field means very little. People will argue that point but take a look at the stats about home field.

Two possible reasons Wright is starting over Cabrera:
- Yes, it's a popularity contest
- Don't forget fielding! Offence is only half of the game, and Wright is a better 3rd baseman. The stats back that up - Wright has a better fielding percentage and less errors (10, to Cabrera's 13)

I agree Cabrera should start over Wright since cabrera was having a better year than wright but then again more METS fans voted for him than Marlins fans did for Cabrera, so you can't blame the fans

Wright's supporters *outvoted* Cabrera's. And like it or not, elections are part of America's Proud tradition.
Why disrespect the entire process and the game itself when you, a fan, aren't willing to abide by the decision of the fans?
Sure, Miguel is doing better at the plate and he is going to be there and will get to play, so don't sweat it. The game is meant to be enjoyed. Let's enjoy it.

What about Carlos Pena of the D-rays? Look at the stats:

David Ortiz(AL Starter) 90-H 54-R 13-HR 49 RBI
He should at least make the team.

The answer is to take the voting out of the hands of the fans. These kinds of issues come up every all-star game.

it is bullshit. i think that the game should be to the fans IF it doesn't mean anything.
now that home field advantage in the world series is on the line, the players and coaches should pick the teams.
bring the best players you can to win.
with that much at stake, it shouldnt be a popularity contest anymore.
