I know all these, among other major faiths, have different histories, different stories, and their own unique claims about revelations of the divine.

But would you say that they all basically teach the same moral and ethical values?

I did when I was sleep a year ago when I noticed a strange glowing figure hovering above my bedroom. It was silverish and twisty looking and had no form. I thought I was seeing things but it was real because it had a brightness to it and I keep my bedroom completely dark when I go to sleep so it was not a refelction of light at all! Till this day I still wonder what it was.

faith means believing in something without evidence or facts.

so why do atheists want proof of God?

whats wrong with taking a leap of faith?

why do you stay up so late on R&S?

it is almost 12:00am (central) shouldn't you be in bed?

I seriously mean no disrespect and have nothing against atheists as a group, but sometimes I think that maybe some atheists on here think they are a bigger group in the US than they really are. Do you ever get a somewhat skewed perception of just how large your group is by being on here where I would say the proportion of atheist to christians is more even?

I am making an assumption here that this person is an atheist, and I dont know for sure but she answered a question with this response

"I believe that even Hilary can win because people will vote AGAINST a fundie rather than FOR anyone.

Most of this country now sees all Christians as ignorant fundies"

I have to wonder if she realizes that most of the country is still christian and if sometimes atheists get a little distorted view of just how religious the country really is by spending time on this message board.

In Hellenic Polytheism we have a festival called Pyanopsia in honour of Apollo, which celebrates the harvest and gives its name to the month Pyanopsion, roughly October. It takes its name from the cooked beans served as part of the festival.

I make a Lentil Soup recipie for that festival.

Is there any particular recipie that you associate with a particular religious festival (like lamb for Easter/Passover)?

I was raised Roman Catholic, even went to Catholic school...now I am at college and have discovered a true relationship with Jesus. I want to explain to my parents that I think Catholicism isn't enough, that there's more to the Bible and to Jesus with us than I'd been taught, but I'm really afraid of how they might take it--a rejection of their beliefs, an attack on their faith, etc...anyone been through anything like this, or have any suggestions? For what it's worth, I feel like I'm closest to Baptist, but would more just call myself a Biblical Christian...thanks!

"I am trying here to prevent anyone saying the really foolish thing that people often say about Him: 'I'm ready to accept Jesus as a great moral teacher, but I don't accept His claim to be God.' That is the one thing we must not say. A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic -- on the level with the man who says he is a poached egg -- or else he would be the Devil of Hell. You must make your choice. Either this man was, and is, the Son of God: or else a madman or something worse. You can shut Him up for a fool, you can spit at Him and kill Him as a demon; or you can fall at His feet and call Him Lord and God. But let us not come with any patronizing nonsense about His being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to." – Mere Christianity, pages 40-41.

and outside of a few claims of personal connection with various deities and their messages, we've just got a few texts that claim to speak for one god or another.
What makes the existence of your personal deity even remotely likely?

Six criteria for Hijaab.

According to Qur’an and Sunnah there are basically six criteria for observing hijaab:

1.

Extent:

The first criterion is the extent of the body that should be covered. This is different for men and women. The extent of covering obligatory on the male is to cover the body at least from the navel to the knees. For women, the extent of covering obligatory is to cover the complete body except the face and the hands upto the wrist. If they wish to, they can cover even these parts of the body. Some scholars of Islam insist that the face and the hands are part of the obligatory extent of ‘hijaab’.

All the remaining five criteria are the same for men and women.
2.

The clothes worn should be loose and should not reveal the figure.
3.

The clothes worn should not be transparent such that one can see through them.
4.

The clothes worn should not be so glamorous as to attract the opposite sex.
5.

The clothes worn should not resemble that of the opposite sex.
6.

The clothes worn should not resemble that of the unbelievers i.e. they should not wear clothes that are specifically identities or symbols of the unbelievers’ religions.

I am an atheist. All of the evidence around me seems to implicate a godless universe.

However, I have the desire to be a Christian. I have no idea why. I wish every day that desire would go away. I don't want to end up converting and being a mockery of myself.

So...why do I have the desire to convert and what can I do about it?

Please read this:

"Brother U r right women gets double the rights than man than why they want more in my life i have seen many women beaten by their husbands and in 90 % cases the fault is of a woman and she doesn't give a ****
medically it is proved that man and woman are different so they can be simillar but not equeal their rights should be the that each one gets totality equal but may differentiate in between

u can read this answer from dr. xakir naik
Question:

Why does Islam degrade women by keeping them behind the veil?

Answer:

The status of women in Islam is often the target of attacks in the secular media. The ‘hijaab’ or the Islamic dress is cited by many as an example of the ‘subjugation’ of women under Islamic law. Before we analyze the reasoning behind the religiously mandated ‘hijaab’, let us first study the status of women in societies before the advent of Islam"
