Take a leap. See if I care. By the way, I'm 16 hours ahead of you, here in the Philippines.

No, really . . . saying you took a leap of faith is honest. But claiming some sort of logical basis for faith is dishonest.

The supernatural – including God, heaven, hell, Satan and tooth fairies – is an invention of the human imagination. The following is for those who believe in the supernatural or indulge other fantasies in preference to reality.

Faith and logic are antithetical. If religious adherents would admit that they believe for PERSONAL, rather than logical, reasons, THEN they would be honest about their "faith". But it’s dishonest to claim one's faith is logical – faith is a personal position, not a logical conclusion.

Faith and doubt always go hand in hand. Faith without doubt is BLIND faith. It takes a closed mind to sublimate doubt to the point of blind faith. Normal people leaven their faith with a little common sense. Doubt always nibbles at the edges of their faith. After all, without doubt, faith would have no context, no purpose, no meaning, no point. Would it?

Because there is no evidence for anything supernatural (including God), NOBODY can claim ANY knowledge of it. Anybody who does is lying or delusional. It takes suspension of disbelief to believe in the supernatural: one must convince oneself that the impossible is possible. This is the opposite of curiosity. You have one life, one quest: yet you choose to surrender it to something you can’t possibly know anything about.

When people talk about faith, they're usually talking about the supernatural: God, angels, miracles, etc. There is, of course, lots of doubt involved because the supernatural is entirely outside the human (natural) realm. It's not so much that God or angels can't exist . . . the real point is that NOBODY has access to the supernatural and thus NOBODY knows ANYTHING about it. Anybody who claims to have faith in something he knows absolutely nothing about is actually confessing to placing his imagination before, and above, his intellect.

Imagination has its place . . . but not where life decisions are involved. Placing imagination above intellect is surrendering your quest for meaning. You are surrendering the meaning of your life to your religion; to your version of God.

And that's fine. Just be honest about it. You made a leap of faith. Your faith is a personal position – not a valid logical conclusion.

Rhetorical questions aren't new to R&S. So rather than spew, let's deal with your questions.

Atheists don't seem to want proof of a god. Believers seem to have trouble using accepted scientific methods to prove God's existance.

Nothing's wrong with taking a leap of faith- we do it all the time. If an atheist doesn't choose to take the same leap you do, that's not up to you.

I stay up late every night, thanks. And, if you must know, I'm in bed on my laptop.

I don't think I answered your questions to your satisfaction because I haven't aligned myself with you. Don't let that be a problem for you. If you have faith, that's fine. If someone else doesn't, don't look for consensus as a psychological crutch for your faith.

Have a great evening and keep on believing!

Why do atheists want proof of God?

Because you keep insisting this great overlord of yours exists and won't accept any other answer or alternative.

Whats wrong with taking a leap of faith?

Nothing. Just don't expect us to follow you when your faith tells you to leap right off the edge of a cliff.

Quit telling us we're going to be punished for not blindly following like sheep either.

Why do you stay up so late on R&S?

Don't assume everyone here lives in America.

We Atheist are as worthy of proof as you are. The thing is it's pretty much stupid if everyone took a leap of faith when it doesn't do any God damn good. All types of religions ask for your total obidience, silence and full on fear upon your very lives. Your concept of "faith" is down right foolish. It's like having faith that Santa Clause will be coming down my chimney. I don't need sensable proof. Just taking a leap of faith is enough right?

As of right now it's 10:00 and I am studying and taking a break for a good laugh. Thank You so much God bless America, good will towards men and all that jibber jabber

Most of them have no idea what they are talking about. They simply want an excuse to be different. They want to know everything, and the fact that there is a higher being, and they really don't have all the answers frightens them.

There is nothing wrong with taking a leap of faith=)
I am a Christian. I have every reason in the world to believe in God. He has showed me so much just in the past two days, it is indescribable.

Faith is your mental acceptance - Athiests expect some evidence or touch of God. You cannot have faith towards impossible things. You cannot pass without writing examinations - so naturally faith comes towards possible ones. If you take a leap of faith for good, well you can go ahead without harming anyone in the earth.

I feel that faith does not need proving until someone tries to push that faith as some sort of universal (for lack of a better word) truth. It seems to me that atheists want proof of God for mainly this reason. If someone is trying to make you believe something that you don't believe in, you're usually going to want to see proof. At least that is my perspective.

The atheists are coming from a whole different perspective then christians or other religions. Those who are atheist were usualy brought up in a either atheist household, or one that was not very strong in their religious faith. Those who want proof of God are those who are constantly pointing out miss steps in the Bible or pointing out the unlogical means of the Bible, but then again you can make anything sound stupid with the writes words and tone of voice.

Why do I stay up so late on R&S, Its because my concious is bothering me and wont let me go to sleep, pluse its only 10:00 PM(pacific) here.

Faith is the assurance of things hoped for; the confidence of things not seen.

Faith is - definition to follow

the assurance - the irrefutable confidence

of things hoped for - life eternal with God.

the conviction - the substantiated irrefutable proof

things not seen - these things being irrefutable

- The creation of the world by the command of God

- Many historical events which have now scientific proof

- People willing to die for a deity

- People willing to join the deity in times of persecution.

- 66 separate writings written by about 40 different writers over the course of possibly thousands of years and they all agree with one another.

- Thousands of people willing to risk their lives not for their beliefs, but for the documents of the faith.

- A small set of men who were chosen by their leader to spread the word of Grace and reconciliation; dying for that duty.

- A leader who proved His uniqueness by His manner of life, His lack of aspirations, His foretold life and death, and that he knew what that would be. He still went for ward with the plan.

- Other belief systems can claim some of this list, but only one can claim all of them.

- Finally, the last point of evidence is a question.

WHAT WILL YOU DO WITH THE EMPTY TOMB?

The Jews tried to buy the evidence. The Romans tried to hide the evidence. The Christians could not find the evidence.

It found them; on the road, in the room, at a meal, and ascending in the sky.

What will you do with the empty tomb?

Grace and peace to you

If there's a declare, a man or woman can elect to objective the declare. Christianity is packed with claims. We study what those claims are, and then respond via trusting interior the declare. faith is have faith if i seem into the Biblical Greek of the word. So atheists who save claiming that they don't have self assurance, basically information, are basically telling me that they don't understand the word. they think of it is basically approximately liturgical issues. And it is not. i haven't chanced on one dictionary that supposes that faith is barely liturgical. i could have self assurance in my workers. i could have self assurance that the easy will come on as quickly as I toggle the change. faith = have faith. EDIT: See? Thumpers' reaction. it is precisely what i'm speaking approximately. it is an innate reaction to the word, with none deeper attention as to the meaning of the word. One man or woman says it, and it sounds possible, so as that all of them seize onto it. whilst extremely it is sophistic; deriving ALL meaning onto one definition, and not in any respect accepting different definitions.
