I really believe that GW was a wake-up call for our country.
We have all seen the harm that an ignorant fundie can do if you give them power.
I believe that even Hilary can win because people will vote AGAINST a fundie rather than FOR anyone.
Most of this country now sees all Christians as ignorant fundies.

It already has. Huckabee is soaring in the polls due probably to the evangelicals.
I have to admit to a little bit of hyppocrisy when it comes to this issue. I never really got why people would care about Romneys religion, esp given the fact that his voting record doesnt come close to being as hard right as many mormons are. (I dont like how liberal he is actually on a lot of issues)
But then Huckabee starts to soar in some of the polls, and maybe its that I am not quite sure about his voting record or his positions on a lot of issues, it makes me a little uncomfortable that an evangelical pastor might become president. This isnt a guy that just claims to be religious or is strong in his religion. It is a guy that made a living out of his religion. I dont know if he can seperate church and state. I guess I just need to read up on his record and his positions more.
I can now more understand, though, why people get a gut reaction against Romneys religion (although I still think his voting record isnt close to most mormons). I dont know if I want a guy for president that belongs to a group that traditionally has put non important issues to the forefront and basically said us mormons are not christians and many say we are going to hell.
Cant we just have a fiscally sound conservative that is tough on immigration and strong on military and international policy? Is that too much to ask for???????????????
gorgeous
newsflash
most of the country is christian so I seriously doubt they see all christians as ignorant fundies
do atheists get this increased sense of being the majority in the country just because there are a lot of them on this message board?

Oh yeah, The Huckster is trying for it. Leading Iowa, he's hoping that will carry into NH. I hope he gets the nomination because he'll be squashed like the creationists in the Dover Trial.
But I fear the GOP machine will soon decide between Rudy, Mitt and McCain and the favorite son will win the nod for the Yellow Elephants.
Brian, why are you misquoting Washington? Lincoln was the president who proclaimed Thanksgiving a national holiday after a woman hounded every president for years.

i think of it is extremely significant. we've massive problems dealing with us as a rustic. we ought to get the very ultimate human beings to symbolize us. I easily have been following the applicants as heavily as i can and wish to make an recommended determination next twelve months. so a procedures i'm leaning in direction of invoice Richardson. I easily have been watching the balloting records of the Senators and Congressmen from my state and have desperate to not vote for them for yet another term.

"Religion and morality are indispensable supports to political prosperity." - George Washington
Was GW too "religious" to be President?
Oh, he also said that it was the "duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey His will, and to humbly impore His protection and favor." In fact, he said that in an official executive proclamation - the one that gave us our Thanksgiving holiday.
And he started the tradition of adding 'so help me God' to the presidential oath, taking said oath on the Bible, and even went to church services immediately after his inauguration.
I don't think George W. Bush or Mike Huckabee have anything on George Washington!

Not this time. Giuliani is going to end up with the Republican nomination, and most likely, Hillary will end up opposing him. Skeletons will be revealed in Giuliani's closet near election time, and Hillary/Obama will win by 4% points.
I'll bet money on it.

The religious right always tries. Hopefully there will be enough common sense voters to offset them.
