My mum and dad are both very strict Roman Catholics, therefore are very keen on me going to church (as in, we go every week, feast day, after sleepovers, even abroad). I am fifteen and have developed my own opinions and wish they would allow me to go my own way. How can I convince them?

There is alot of wisdom in this old Zen saying. It's about trying to attain an external ideal (your idea of what the Buddha looks like) rather than realizing the ideal that already exists within you. It's about seeking, striving, looking to the future instead of simply being in the present.

Can people in other religions apply this to their own path?

And how many questions/statements about how horrible the Golden Compass is will we see here by people who haven't investigated it for themselves?

And why do some people actually say "My priest/preacher said it's a bad film so I can't see it!"

Do people not think for themselves?

I've been searching for answers to many deep, spiritual questions to which I have yet to find answers. I've been reading into different philosphies and religions. Recently I read a passage by Locke which stated something like 'to gain a true perspective on one's surroundings, one must take into account perspectives on the environment other to your own'. So, I've opened myself up to different perspectives, such as christianity.
After reading the bible, however, I felt as if I would be cheating myself by not reading into the opposite perspective, that of the satanist, and I was rather surprised by what I found. There was no slaughtering of babies, drinking of blood, or whatever first pops into ones mind from all sorts of propeganda. It was more a mockery of organized religion and the hypocrisy of it all and that one should give into their carnal desires if it will make them a better person.

So, I am interested as to what other's perspectives are on this topic.

If you could just answer these questions I'd appreciate it...
Are you from a religious family/a family that did have some grounds of one religion or another?

If yes, are you the same religion today?

Have you ever delved into finding out about if anything else other than what you were brought up believing, different religions/evolution/atheist?

Have you ever considered that what you believe now is solely because that's what you were told growing up?
It doesn't make it true..
Just an example to illustrate what I'm trying to say here..
Growing up, kids are told Santa is real and they believe it because that's what they're told..

Let me know what you make of this..

This is the question that has been asked for years but has never been answered. It has plagued the minds of many but evades our foolish efforts.

Who would win in a fight?

Batman or Superman? I gotta go with Batman....

Scarcely any of that with Buddhism, Hinduism, Judaism or Sikhism.
And gee willickers, guess which two groups are participating in the biggest, most ridiculous and harmful series of wars! Anybody else see a connection?
If Jesus could see what you've done with this thing called Christianity, I think he would cry.

His wisdom is more then ours. He knows what is best for us. Sometimes we see something as good when it is truly bad and sometimes we see things as bad when it is truly good. Is it for us to ask God why?

It seems I have been obsessed with religion ever since I was about 21...I'm 29 now...I go through constant phases of being a devout Christian and then go through believing in forms of Paganism as well as switching to Agnosticism and even Atheism at times and then reverting back to Christianity...This is just driving me crazy! It's just a never-ending cycle and I don't know what to do anymore. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

is that in the Bible? did I not just imagine it?

I read the NIV bible, is that same verse included in the KJV that Bible-fundamentalists are famously using?

if it is, then why do these Bible-fundamentalists claim they know who's going to hell and who's going to heaven? aren't all people sinners according to them? why are they the first to throw a stone at people who don't belong in their group?
