Well. Either creepy crazy people are attracted to scientology, or scientology makes people creepy and crazy.

Heehee. And its Stewie Griffon asking? :-)

But really, have you met creepy crazy scientologists? or are you offended when someone jumps on the furniture proclaiming love of their wife?

I am in California and I am surrounded by scientologists all the time. They are different but I would not say creepy or crazy. They tend to be too happy, way too open and honest, and a trainload of being too focused in life. Not at all my type of people. I am more comfortable around slackers, jokers, and procrastinators. Crazy people I like. Focused people bug me.

They are all way too beautiful in a strange vampire sort of way. It's the way they act. Smiling, looking you in the eye, listening to what you say, being comfortable standing close. Somehow they all seem better looking than they are. So you might happily get your picture taken with them to show off to your friends but when you look at it later you say WTF was I thinking?!?

Scientology's doctrines were established by Hubbard over a period of about 34 years, beginning in 1952 and continuing until his death in January 1986. Most of the basic principles were set out during the 1950s and 1960s. Now described as an "applied religious philosophy," Scientology was at first secular; Hubbard began to characterize Scientology's beliefs and practices as a religion in 1953, and by 1960 he had redefined it as a "religion by its basic tenets." Hubbard recorded his doctrine in 500,000 pages of writings, 6,500 reels of tape and 42 films that are carefully protected and guarded for posterity. Scientology is a body of beliefs and related techniques composed of 15 basic books, 15,000 pages of technical writing and over 3,000 lectures. There isn’t a single Scientology book that is the equivalent of the Bible or the Quran but the study of Scientology is achieved through the chronological study of its basic books and lectures. describes itself as the "the study and handling of the spirit in relationship to itself, others and all of life." Scientology philosophy encompasses all aspects of life from the point of view of the spirit; including a spiritual rehabilitation philosophy and techniques, morals, ethics, detoxification, education and management.

Other beliefs of Scientology are:

* A person is an immortal spiritual being (termed a thetan) who possesses a mind and a body.

* The thetan has lived through many past lives and will continue to live beyond the death of the body.

* Through the Scientology process of "auditing," people can free themselves of specific traumatic incidents, prior ethical transgressions and bad decisions, which are said to collectively restrict the person from reaching the state of "Clear," and after that, the state of "Operating Thetan." Each state is said to represent the recovery of the native spiritual abilities of the individual, and to confer dramatic mental and physical benefits.

* A person is basically good, but becomes "aberrated" by moments of pain and unconsciousness in his or her life.

* Psychiatry and psychology are destructive and abusive practices.

Can you define Creepy & Crazy ?

... clearly you don't know many Scientologists personally. I, on the other hand, do, and I know that it's foolish to be so judgemental of an entire religion because of the handful of crazy people in charge of the church.

Apply this same question to any and all religions. They all do crazy creepy stuff - that is the nature of religion.

All I know is what I saw on the Oprah show, and that is one weird dude! He is a real creep. But as far as the group theScientologists, I know nothing of their beliefs.

It's no more crazier than the average religion it's just because it's newer and people haven't had a chance to get used to it yet.

Judge not, lest ye be judged.
Waddaya know? Looks like religious books CAN be helpful after all.
Yes their faith is bizarre, but no more than any other in the scheme of things.

That's what belonging to a cult will do to you. All people who are members of cults are creepy.

The main thing that makes them creepy is this *stare* that they're taught to do in their auditing "sessions".
