It seems I have been obsessed with religion ever since I was about 21...I'm 29 now...I go through constant phases of being a devout Christian and then go through believing in forms of Paganism as well as switching to Agnosticism and even Atheism at times and then reverting back to Christianity...This is just driving me crazy! It's just a never-ending cycle and I don't know what to do anymore. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

i too have always loved studying other religions. and i have also gone through a long cycle of trying to figure out which religion i am, if any. i think that perhaps you should just call yourself an agnostic until you know for sure which religion calls to you the most. that's what i'm doing.

If you EVER think you've found "the one true faith", you're only kidding yourself! I was about your age when I finally figured that out, and that was 25 years or so ago. I had a bit of a head start though, because I was only 14 when I started asking myself the big questions. All religion is cultural myth, and all those who hold to literal spiritual beliefs have been psychologically indoctrinated into the acceptance of mythology as fact. No one wants to think that Mommy and Daddy lied to them all of their lives, or that all their religious friends are misguided.

"Believers" are not liars, and those they grew up listening to aren't either, (but there are those who are in it for the money!) Buddhism has a saying about the finger pointing at the moon. The finger is pointing out the light, but all too many become so fascinated with the finger pointing the way, that they miss seeing the light altogether.

The religion itself is irrelevant. They can all, individually or collectively, direct you on your way, but you first have to come to terms with the fact that they are no more than vague markers along the path, and are NOT the literal source of the truth you seek!

The answers aren't all written in books, and if you can't get beyond asking yourself, "well what if,...", you are going to either accept someone else's wrong answers, or confuse yourself worse than you already are. Religion reveals it's greatest lessons only when it has been demystified.

Find an SDA (Seventh Day Adventist) Church near you and see if someone can do a Bible Study with you. I promise you will understand the Bible more clearly than you ever have before. They can show you how things fit together, even when they appear ( on the surface) not to. If one doesn't have the answer to a question, they can find someone who specializes in any particular subject to help you.

I was waffling before but once I started studying with them, I have seen how the secular world and the Biblical world fit together. I have also seen the reasons why things happen and understand them more clearly. Seriously, if there is something they can't answer Biblically... they will find someone who knows.

This is what helped me. I was confused about ghosts (I believed they were the spirits of the dead), I also used to believe that evolution and the Bible could co-exist, and many other seemingly contrast idea's. My view is much clearer now. What can it hurt? If you don't believe what they say and they can't prove it from the Bible, you are free to move on.

the thing about it is, there are so many types of religion in the world (duh), but you cannot spend your life figuring out which one you think is true. you will find different faiths that you find truthful, but no one really knows who is right, and who KNOWS what happened. all you can do is follow your heart and deep down, know what you think is the best... focus on your life, family, and friends, and just because the facts and figures are not there, doesnt mean you cannot believe... yes there may be other options, but TRUE believing is sticking to one faith and putting full heart into it, and staying there no matter what someone says or who tries to convince you otherwise.

Do a lot of background search on each kind of Religion. When did it start, what they believe in. Compare it to History and Science, things that are facts. And figure out which one fits you best. It takes a lot of time and research, though.

Just live your life. Forget about religion for a while, maybe 2,3 months - have a religion detox. No church, no philosophical arguments in your head, just live your life from day to day. Then after this detox look back and assess whether your life was better with or without having religion. If it is then you may need to reassess your priorities.

do what most of the founding fathers said when people asked what their religion was: be just and good. all religion comes down to this. we all know what the right thing is. the rest is culture, politics, power, money and ignorance.

There you said it..."religion" when everybody that's anybody knows that Christianity is about "Relationship?" (not religion) get into some "truth" and get over it, religion is not the answer, relationship with the Lord is...(trust me) "Peace!" well, you almost got it right.... :)

Once you have accepted Christ in your life you will feel the Holy Spirit tugging at you to come back where you belong. You will always feel this tugging till you die.
God is fighting for your soul and so is Satan. Pray a lot and repent of doing anything not pleasing to God. You are on the right track to follow Jesus all the way home.
