It doesn't. Anybody who says it does is guilty of false witness.
The Church is a guide for us, the Body of Christ on earth, to come closer and closer to God through the sacraments.
If you are making the mistake of assuming that the tradition and teachings of the Church are attempts to control people, let me respectfully set you straight: the teachings of the Church are only in place to help people control their own lives themselves via the Holy Spirit.

The Catholic Church does not control anybody.
Jesus taught us in Matthew 22:37-38: "You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and the first commandment.
Jesus, God the Son, has told us how we should love God, with our body (heart), our mind, and our soul.
In Matthew 28:19-20, Jesus then set up the Church to, "Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the holy Spirit teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you."
This is a role of teacher and guide, not control.
With love in Christ.

The Church actively promotes Free Will. One either chooses to follow the teachings of the Church, or they choose not to. It's that simple.
If God influences one's mind, body, and soul, it is precisely because that person has chosen to allow God to influence mind, body, and soul.

The same way any church of any demonination does, they just have more experience doing it, so they are quite successful at it.
People are controlled to some degree by many institutions, religion, government, and family. Institution themselves are by nature designed for governance and created by the very people which they govern.
People need governing to some degree. However, it is up to the people to be an active part of any institution in order to keep it from becoming an abusive one. We harverst what we plant, and if we become lazy, well, we get what we deserve.

The Catholic Church is there to give advise when people ask for it. The do not say that you go to hell when you sin they tell you to repent for the sin (just as the bible does). Maybe you should try attending a Catholic Church and speaking to a priest before you discriminate against the Church and Everyone who attends it.

as the bible says " train a child in the way YOU would have them go and when they are old they will not depart from it "
The Catholic church adopted that attitude , so they teach kids from a very young age to be Catholic and or as they are passive...to mans doctrines saying it ALL originated from the Catholic church , so its ALL ok
and people elsewhere allowed the public systems to raise thier's instead , thus children dont learn sound or True Doctrine of the TRUTH which is the REAL BIBLE
so in sense the Catholic's do control those taught of them
and so do Atheists control those taught of them
and christians control those taught of them
and seems only a FEW are allowing the TRUTH which is GOD to teach and control them !!!
And then everyone wonders why this world is in the shape its in

According to Roman Catholicism, man cannot be saved by faith alone in Christ alone. They teach that the Christian must rely on faith plus “meritorious works” in order to be saved. Essential to the Roman Catholic doctrine of salvation are the Seven Sacraments, which are: baptism, confirmation, the Eucharist, Penance, anointing of the sick, Holy Orders, and matrimony.

But it will help you lean how to practice a self-control over your own body, mind and soul, if you wish.

"With mind altering injections administered once a day to 1 billion people." "The pope does it alone.....no wonder he's tired."
No really, the Church does not compel anyone to believe the gospel.

By putting its members into the fear of "going to hell" if they do not do, say and even think what they are told to by the catholic church. You are not even allowed to ask questions, you are supposed to just listen to whatever they tell you. In fact, they control you even in death, because you are not allowed to choose what you want done with your own body after death. For anything other than what the church dictates (like if you want cremation, or to donate your body to science) you must get the church's permission, or they tell you that you will not get into heaven.
