I'm not having one yet, but I thought I'd see what you do, and share something I recently heard.
Try this: Stop at the pharmacy, & purchase a rectal thermometer made by Johnson & Johnson. Be very sure you get this brand. When you get home, lock your doors, draw the curtains and disconnect the phone so you will not be disturbed. Change into very comfortable clothing & sit in your favorite chair. Open the package & remove the thermometer. Now, carefully place it on a table or a surface so that it will not get chipped or broken. Now the fun part begins. Take out the literature from the box & read it carefully. Notice in the small print the statement: "Every Rectal Thermometer made by Johnson & Johnson is personally tested and then sanitized". Now, close your eyes and repeat out loud five times, "I am so glad I do not work in the thermometer quality control at Johnson & Johnson." Have a nice day & remember there's always someone with a job that is more of a pain in the butt than yours :)

Atheism is not a belief system in opposition to religion. Atheism is simply the lack of any belief in gods. Atheism is the way all people would view reality if religious belief was removed from the picture.
Everyone's an atheist until they adopt theistic beliefs

Alright, now I have a question, and I'm not even going to go into deep theology, just an easy question...

When I talk to people about the origin of christmas, they often say "well not it centers Jesus' birth so it's not pagan"
I have a question about this, and to answer, all you will have to do is look around you.

How much of the celebration of christmas actualy centers Jesus?
How many of the Movies/shows even MENTION Jesus?

Here comes the Question:
If the main things celebrated in christmas are pagan (list to follow) and we rarely even remember Jesus (not everyone but most) then how can we claim that we aren't celebrating pagan things?

Pagan aspects of Christmas (christmas things with pagan origins - and meanings) - not complete list.

* The tree
* The giving of gifts
* Santa Clause
* Santa's sack of goodies
* The giving of cookies to Santa
* Yule
* Kissing under mistletoe
* Adorning the home
* The Date of Dec 25 (birth day of every pagan god)
...& more.

since it was revised four times, the last being in 1769.
What Bible would these KJV worshippers recommend since before 1611 there was no Bible.
Do they realize that the apostle Paul did not use the KJV. Why do KJV only advocates reject the apocrypha, since the original 1611 version contained the apocrypha?

I wasnt claiming that they do brainwash children as they claim Christians do. I simply asked why were they so bad at it. Was it that someone might infer that I was implying that Christians brainwash children? I could see where that might make someone mad.

Just curious as to why this question would get deleted. It always irks me that they never really give you an explanation when a question is deleted.

For example, in very primitive countries like Afghanistan, the belief in god is close to 100%, whilst in western countries such as Sweden, its closer to 23%. Also in countless studies of scientists, university professors and other learned men, this pattern is continued. Why do we think this might be?

If you believe, as I have heard some who do (at conferences and such - read books) that the earth was created by a big bang, but...
in the words of one "I just know you banged it!"

Do you believe;
1) That we banged and had a carbon planet that evolved into something?

Or
2)That we banged and then God set people on the earth.

Now state 1 or 2, or other and fill me in.

Second question,

if you chose 1, and claim to be religious (accepting at least genesis) then how do you claim to believe the Bible (at least genesis) because it plainly states that God created things in an order at one time.

No yom = day = period of time
stuff...

Every time in the Bible Yom is used WITH A NUMERAL (first day second day ect.)
1 physical morning and evening day is meant, and in addition the Bible states "and there was morning and evening the 'first' day"...

Please stay respectful, I am wondering about beliefs.

Thank you.

They don't beleive in fairies, Bigfoot, or people having telekenisis, etc.

But they'll readily believe any story/tale involving God and Jesus and the existence of angels and an afterlife. I don't understand that mentality.

This question is directed at Christians who are anti-immigration. I'd expect atheists to be anti-immigration, but Christians should know better.

Our Lord Jesus Christ said what we do to the "least" of us we do to Him. If we persecute and torment "illegal" aliens (how can a person be illegal) we will have to answer it before God.

Now, none of this "render unto Caesar" crap! That's taxes. Nor give me this crap obeying the laws of the land.

It is simple: "least of ye do to Me."

pretend to your boss that you are a God fearing Christian. I recently found out that my boss is an evangelical Christian. So I read the whole Bible, I memorized a few lines from it, and now I show up to church every sunday with my boss. I worked there for 4 years and never got a raise or a promotion. I simply told him that I have always gone to this church and that we just never ran into each other and he bought it. Now, I am a few months away from becoming a secretary for him. I have recieved multiple raises and life is good. You see atheists, you need to just take advantage of a bad situation. Sure most people are Christians and that's annoying as Hell, but make the best of a bad situation.

1 - I don't understand what he's saying so I just assume that he must be wrong.

2 - I deliberately misinterpret the question so I can bring up an irrelevant subject which I know about so I look clever.

3 - I ignore the glaring logic of the question and quote useless bible passages.

4 - I call him an idiot because I don't know what else to say.

5 - I ignore the question because I don't like thinking about things which challenge my faith.

Mostly they go for 3.

Or will we have to go in our pajamas or even nude if we are in the shower or doing nude-gardening?

Would you keep a pac-a-mac on you just in case?

What if one is on the toilet? presumedly many people will be?

Will we get time to make ourselves decent

Worried. Worcs. UK.

I just found this Time article, which contains excerpts from a debate between Francis Collins (Christian, and a scientist) and Richard Dawkins.
It's a little long, but should be easy reading for people from both camps. Would you be willing to read it and share any comments you have?

Thank you to those who answered the first part of my question. I figured it would be this way. I definitely made the most foolish mistake of my life. Now to add to the foolishness.

A friend of mine who was never meant to be told I was dead was told just that by my father who was helping me carry out option 2. I have to say he was helping me only under duress. He has never agreed with what I have done. Anyway, when my friend found out, he also found out that my fiancee had done exactly as I hoped she would do and had moved on with her life. She had found someone else. My friend thought it too soon and said some horrible things to her and unknown to me (my father kept this from me till recently) has been harassing her. A couple of weeks ago this friend found out my 'death' was a lie. He apparently told my fiancee. (cont.)

Some parts speak of the creation, others of raping/killing infidels, some parts of love.

How do you know which parts to take and which to put away,
without using a moral sense present in every human ?

Or is god speaking to you directly to let you know that this part is ok, this one is not ?

That was a trick question to see how many of you would be tempted by the lust in your heart for these men. Shame on you for even thinking of these men of God as sexual objects for your own pleasure and gratification!

Your lust will consume you and send you to HELL!!!
