Is it just the "in thing" today and a few centuries from now humans will be into some other religion they've made up?

The Greek/Roman, Egyptian, Norse, and Chinese beliefs were at least as old if not older. They're gone now.
Knowing that, age shouldn't really play a factor here.

there were alot of manuscripts/books writeen in ancient days besides the Bible. No one talks about them. I never said Jesus wasn't a real guy. No doubt he was (I mean why not). But you gotta admit if there was a modern day guy walking around claiming the same stuff, we'd have him "put away" somewhere.

So Christianity's been here 2000 years, so what? The older religions were around longer than that and they died out.
If that the biggest argument someone has, then its not a very strong sales pitch to beleive in something thats mostly based on hearsay, speculation and human opinion and translation.
Knowing He created such short lived creatures, shouldn't he come by every so often and pay us a visit and update us on what we should be beleiving in? Not a very good supervisor.
And why just humans, because we evolved the brain capacity to think up this stuff? Cmon.

There are a lot of ubiquitous themes and stories in mythology. But as I see it, you've missed two important things.
First, generally, there is a difference between truth and fact. That some things are not literally true does not change their value - for example, the entire works of Aesop. Or any metaphor, like "Wal-Mart is the 800 pound gorilla of retail." (Wal-Mart is not actually an 800 pound gorilla, but that statement tells an important truth about their power and importance in the field of retailing.)
Second, Christianity is unique in two ways. Jesus was an actual person and he claimed to be one with God and have a special mission to brnig the good news to all humanity. You can decide he was nuts or decide he telling the truth, but you can't simply dismiss him as just like all other [usually fictional] man-God characters like Apollo or Krishna. Additionally, Christianity is the only religion known to man told from the victim's point of view so that it subverts redemptive violence, the very foundation of domination culture. This is singularly unique on several levels from all other mythologies in history and it has incredible psychological importance.

Of course it is, and this is obvious to anyone who objectively views the writings that it is based on, and the history of those writings.
There is a difference though, between studying those writings, and belonging to the doomsday cult that was spawned from them (Christianity).
In much the same way, reading Dianetics, and becoming a Scientologist, are two entirely different things.
Edit - mdjgirl... hate to break it to you, but there are countless mythologies that are far older, and had a longer run, than your Christianity. 2000 years is a drop in the bucket, darling.

All religion is based on mythology.
But there is sometimes as much truth in the stories we make up to explain the "why" as there is in the science that explains the "how."
I'm Wiccan, and one of the facts we've had to deal with lately is that much of what we previously considered our history is actually our lore. But knowing that doesn't change the heart of our beliefs, or point our ethical compass in a different direction.
Stories and myths are a way of helping each other come to terms with mystery. The different explanations don't invalidate each other, because truth is found in many places, and takes many different forms.

You do realize that Christianity has been around for like two thousand years right. Jesus Christ was a actual person the Romans kept pretty good records and Christ is recored in those records.
Think about it his disciples were beaten, tortured and stoned to death teaching about him would they do that if they knew he was a lie? They saw him after he was resurrected from the dead. A good book for you to read would be A Case for Christ it was written by a atheists.
There is only one major decision for you to make in this life time and it is to accept Christ for who he is if you miss this one you are condemned for all time. Please spend some time investigating this for yourself not on what the secular world teaches you but do your own research. Read the Bible yourself then come to your own conclusions.
It just kills me points people think they are making about Christianity and they have never read the whole Bible they pick out what they think is mythology.
If the truth be known the Bible is the oldest history book of all time. The Koran nobody knows who wrote that at all and it is not as old as the Bible. Since the Bible is the oldest history book of all time it is ridiculous to think it took mythology from another pagan religion.
Let's see the Bible was written 1450-1410 BC to AD 95 that would mean the majority of the authors did not know each other but yet they all had the same theme. How could that be if it is not Devinne.

Actually YES and somehow the bible bangers seem to overlook the fact that mankind was on the planet before the it was even written. It is only one of many theories put forth to explain the unexplainable. People used to fear black cats and walking under ladders and watch out for stepping on cracks.

Yes.
The biggest difference is that Christians believe in a literal manifestation of a Savior, where most of the older religions didn't.

Bible Christianity is not, but nearly all the teachings of mainline Christendom (RC and those that came from RC) are just pagan mythologies and philosophies with some attempt at proof texting or argument to make them seem Biblical.

Sounds right to me, though "a few centuries" is optimistic - there will certainly be a new major religion, but the old ones don't die too quickly.
