Scientific fact is independently verifiable.

Belief in a creator is not.

It may seem like a subtle difference, but in fact it is a massive one.

Since 95 % of religion consists of pretending to know things that you do not know, I think the answer is clear.

They aren't the only religion that changes their scripture, their early history and can tap dance.

Can't we all just get along?

explaining exactly how everyone actually believes the way you do?

"There are no atheists in foxholes"
"Even atheists pray when desperate, they just don't realize it"
"Everyone believes in a creator, many are just too stubborn to admit it."

Do I need to go on?

How can you say that the Catholic Church added books to the Bible when those books were in the Septuigent version of the Bible 200 years before Christ was born: 200 years before Christ established His Church?

...your new understanding was written about a thousand years ago by some pope and associates?
If you have not discovered that the catholic chuch is way ahead of you, you have not studied the Bible.
You can nit-pik all you want to. But go straight to the bottomlne. They believe you will go to heaven and you believe you will go to Heaven. Sub-cults have Mickey Moused around to makew it look like they are the "chosen" ones. But it is plagerism of the logo of the Cult Of Octavian. The sub-cult want a piece of the action.

When you think about it, don't all religions, no matter how many gods they have, have one major God? Christianity has God, Jesus, Angels, Holy Ghost, Mother Mary, Saints, Etc. Hinduus have several Gods, Buddhism has several Gods, the list goes on and on just to name a few and I am sorry to all other religions that I have left out, but I want to know, really want to know, if the fact is that no matter what all the people call their head honcho God isn't the same guy just a different name for different races and different religions and again why are we all fighting about it? Or is all the fighting really about power and greed and lust?!

If God restores the limb of one amputee, how many atheists will give their whole lives to Christ and follow him for the rest of your lives without reserve???

I'm a college student at a local Christian college and I'm doing a speech next week.

Which persuasive speech topic would be more appealing in your opinion? A speech about the importance of making confessions, for example, “I am the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus”, “I am God’s beloved”. Simply speaking God’s Word out loud over your life. Some disagree with this because it tends to lie under the “name-it-claim-it” kind of confessing.

Or my speech could be on the importance of having good manners. For example, people take you more seriously if you display good manners; people are more likely to show you respect, etc. Our world has drifted away from using good manners whether at home or in public (opening doors for others; saying “yes ma’am” and “no ma’am” even at home).

Which one? Thanks for your input!

Can someone explain old-earth creationism to me?

I have heard its something like this... each creation "day" actually represented a much larger span of time... like a million years or something.

So lets say its 1 million years... so adam was created on day six, god rested for a million years (day 7)... and... well... see... we're already screwed up... The Bible says Adam lived for a thousand years, and then goes on to talk about the ancestry, which leads us to believe Adam lived only a few thousand years ago... so confused...

Maybe as a result of prior civilization's experiments, contamination, genetic engineerings. Were our mythological Chimeras actually true creations of the Atlantis Era. Was the Earth impacted sinking Atlantis, creating a flood to exterminate all Chimeras and Quasimodos? How insensible and stubborn are our world leaders! How much political-ideological dreamers are their followers today? Answer any of these questions at your will.

Careful with the links, they are of sensitive nature.

I read the article, “New York's $25,000 dessert sets Guinness record,” and I started getting scared.

I started thinking what if some really poor or homeless person walked in and saw this great sundae and ordered one then got the bill and couldn’t pay it. And what if the shop tried to have him arrested or something awful! It’s not plausible, I know. The shop would see a homeless person coming and never serve him at $25K sundae! But what’s wrong with me to seriously worry about this sort of thing…something that’d NEVER happen? I’ve been doing this kind of thing a lot lately…

For Mature Spiritual/Intellectual Thinkers. My question is about inerrancy. When a bible fundamentalist claims the bible is 100% inerrant doesn't that:

1. Immediately shut down the necessity of objective study? After all, if it is 100% perfect what is the point of textual criticism, source criticism.

2. Gloss over the the values of the writers of the Bible, who DID have inhumane or even unscientifc views on MANY things (e.g.Leviticus 11:6 incorrectly states that rabbits chew their cud). and were more interested in conveying and persuading spiritual ideas more than accurate history or science.

3. Ignore many of the failed prophesies in the bible. One glaring example is in Ezekiel 29:10-14 where it said Egypt would be made an uninhabited wasteland for forty years and Nebuchadrezzar would plunder it in 29:19-20. NEITHER HAPPENED!

Last of all, If the bible is 100% accurate in all its facts, history, language, science etc. Why is faith STILL needed to believe it is true?
